Financial shape shifters already have . The national debt is the money supply and there is not need nor want to pay it off. If there is any debt that need not ever be paid it is this one because to do so would merely shrink the money supply distorting the credit markets in the creditor's favor as if the bailout was not enough. We gonna create a FIRE sale for them?
These are the three major classes of debt:
* The national debt

* private debt to commercial banks
* the foreign debt.
Of the debt problem it is the latter of the two that is the big problem, and the only one people seem to talk about is the same one we use as the money supply on the cheap. The only way to pay it down without depressing the money supply is to borrow an equal amount from the banks. Or we could pay it down and just allow the real debt to banks grow with deflation. Your mind has been destroyed by the financial shape shifters and they feed one your lobotomized body.
The problem is the carrying charges on this private debt, and the fact that debt service is eating into personal income – and also business income – to deflate the economy.

Americas deficits and national debt, have been caused by trickle down economics, and a unneeded Iraq war.
The US federal government had surpluses until GW Bush did trickle down economics, and started the Iraq war for no good reason.
As soon as GW Bush's tax cuts for billionaires, and the Iraq war end. Our deficits will go back down to sustainable levels.
America needs to learn that trickle down tax cuts create huge deficits. Thank God M. Romney did not get his $6.6 trillion dollar tax cut for Americas rich (all of that money would have gone to our national debt.)
Obama said there is " no immediate crisis. " The " chill out" seems to be your own value add.
