If he were alive today with a clear or semi clear mind he would wonder how, why, what caused, the public to get so dumb as to elect the incompetent leaders of the last few years or maybe even the last few decades.
Every so often we hear this tired claim from Republicans. More than anything else it demonstrates the utter lack of understanding afflicting whoever makes the claim.
The fundamental problem is that it ignores the fact that political ideas occur and are relevant in a certain context, and it makes no sense to apply them out of context. The fact that President Kennedy favored reductions in the tax rate fifty years ago, when the top tax rate was 90%, does not demonstrate that in today's world he would favor tax cuts on the rich today.
Until recently this would not have been a controversial assertion. It is only since Reagan, or perhaps George H.W. Bush, that the Republicans adopted the ideological view that cutting taxes is always the right thing to do, no matter what the current rates are, no matter what the federal budget looks like, no matter what the economy looks like.
Because President Kennedy possessed an adaptive intelligence that enabled him to look at the world, understand it, and develop ideas to address the problems that existed at the time he would never fit in today's Republican Party.
