This is the main problem in this country, not poverty itself. In today's US, it is too easy to slide down and too hard to go up.

I would even say, in some ways, we are not a first world country anymore.

True and remarkably so. It's not even close.
Why?

People, let's not think about "urban welfare queens" but at the REAL poor people. These people...is there any group like them in Denmark?

"Buffalo County, S.D., is the nation's poorest county. The 2000 census says Buffalo County has more poor children than any other county in the nation. The latest round of census numbers show us how many homes don't have kitchens, plumbing and telephones. In Buffalo County the number of homes without those basic services is increasing.

Most of Buffalo County is made up of the Crow Creek Indian reservation"

MPR: South Dakota has nation's poorest county

But I forgot, Native Americans just aren't "entrepreneur enough" to cut it and need to "lift themselves up with their own boot straps" (let's just ignore that the US government stole those boots )

If this was Denmark or Finland, this would never happen...but I forgot, those are "Evil socialist states" that "are oppressive and vile".

I'm just waiting for a new cold war against Scandinavia...not too sure America will buy into it, but the Fox News Bots sure as hell will.

All I have to see about our system vs there's (other than the lack of poverty and social inequality etc) is this:

I've seen a lot of poverty in the States, but even that in person doesn't look 1/2 as bad as what people in other places have to endure according to those pictures... JMHO...

thread seems to have gone of point

this isnt about comparing how the poor have it in america to the middle class in a third world country

its about comparing how they have it to their counterparts in other developed rich countries

unemployment benefits in america are far lower than in any european country and dont think im someone who want huge redistribution , entitlements are too generous in ireland , their is a balance but the poor in america have it very tough

False. In the US, if you are poor, it does not necessarily mean you will be homeless and hungry.

Worst country for a Middle Class. Middle Class will move backwards in their life with high cost of health care, zero public transportation, low savings rate, high insurance costs and expensive college education. Middle Class becomes poor in America.

Agreed with every word.
Healthcare, education, savings rate are really important things, not large homes and huge cars and big TV panels.

Not among first world countries though. The American poor are better off than the poor in Moldova, but Russian poor are better off than the poor in Moldova. Europeans pay a higher tax rate and have a higher COL, but they get something in return for the taxes

That doesn't necessarily mean the poor are better off. Europeans and Russians simply take more pride in their appearance than Americans do. The metric I would use is access to food, housing, healthcare, education, and jobs or job training. Of course social mobility and safety matter as well.

Nobody made that claim. The claim is that among first world countries the USA is the worst to be poor in. What is a worse country to be poor in. If you are poor in the US you will receive a poor education, likely live in a dangerous neighborhood, and not have medical care. It is a blast to be rich in though.
