Neither is getting drunk, but it hasn't stopped people from doing it.

I'm not quite sure where you live, but cigarettes are absolutely socially acceptable and in high demand. The youth party crowd still smokes heavily.

Yes, marijuana is clearly making inroads with the public accepting it much more than previously but none of this has anything to do with the health implications of it.

From the governments standpoint, they are rallying against smoking from a health standpoint but it they shouldn't have any concern with what people do or don't do with their bodies and health.

The bottom line is, that cigarettes and marijuana are both going to be legalized within the next couple years for recreational purposes and people should be able to pick and choose if they want to smoke neither, one or both.

The health/save-you-from-yourself mentality of people, government and the political parties is hilarious, be an a real American and let people control their own destiny.

Then be in the minority? Why do you care if you are on the wrong side of the public opinion?

Don't smoke pot or cigs and move on....it is baffling someone would actually concern themselves with something so innocuous.

Do you take pharmaceuticals, drink alcohol, caffeine or exceed lean BMI? Throw stones, throw them stones.

Considering the opposite scientific evidence exists and you are spewing "Reefer Madness" style fear-mongering like a true fool.

You have right in free society to get/be as mind-altered as you would like as often as you want.

Once you cross the line and actually commit an offense against another person or property then you have crossed the line whether sober or altered.

You aren't smart enough to understand, live in your bubble of non-critical-thinking. You are easily, metaphorically smoked like a joint in the arena of thought.

Not sure what you're actually getting at here. If it's your position that each should be treated the same, then you are either arguing that both should be legal, or that both should be illegal. But you never get around to taking a position.

As to "cool..." both are clearly considered by "cool" by some people, and not "cool" by others." Both are considered "socially acceptable" by some people and not "socially acceptable" by others. So your complaint is a straw man.

Wow! Are you kidding? Do you not realize that our nation is in the midst of a prescription drug epidemic?
Wake up! We're past the point of no return and now must legalize marijuana to curb legal drug deaths and addiction.

"Drug death rates are currently more than twice what they were during the peak years of crack cocaine mortality in the early 1990s, and four to five times higher than the rates during the year of heroin mortality peak in 1975"

Overdose Death Rate Surges, Legal Drugs Are Mostly to Blame | Drugs | AlterNet

"The United States has a passion for pills, being the world's biggest users of psychotropic drugs, consuming 60 per cent of them. And pharmaceutical firms are keen to keep cashing in on the multibillion-dollar market, even if it costs people's health.

Last year, prescription drug abuse became the number one cause of accidental death, with more than 30,000 Americans overdosing.

The number of children consuming antipsychotic medication has doubled in the past decade. Millions of American adolescents are taking drugs like Adderall, doled out by doctors to treat hyperactivity."

Pharmageddon: America

And you choose to demonize a plant that cannot cause death and creates no physical dependence for the user?

Most of these illnesses that people are prescribed these dangerous and addictive pills for are treated naturally by cannabis-like depression, PTSD, anxiety, etc.

You are spreading propaganda and lies and anyone with a functioning brain sees through it.

As the War on "Drugs" rages on, ruining lives and communities over a plant, legalized drugs are killing more people now than any illegal drug has ever done at any point in history, including the crack epidemic.

I suppose because corporations are raking in the profits from mass addiction, the current and real drug problem is marginalized.
And you seem to be ok with that, so long as you don't have to change your views. Sad.

I honestly don't know why one would be cool and not the other, maybe b/c you can get stoned or high on pot and not on cigs. Cigs really serve no purpose. They used to be cool, and now they're not so much, so maybe pot will go that way, too. Not really sure since I don't hang out with a lot of people who do either.
WRONG. Smoking pot has been proven to be less harmful to the lungs than smoking tobacco. The worse that is likely to happen is coming down with bronchitis. With tobacco it's lung cancer.

And I don't think there is anything you can get second hand from marijuana.
