Tobacco grown by Big Agriculture for a profit and cigarettes manufactured by Big Tobacco for a profit. Profit = evil.

Marijuana grown by hippies (so people imagine) and sold by hippies as non-profit, can't we all just get along goodwill towards everyone (so people imagine). Hippies promoting love and peace = good.

It's really that simple.

If freaking hippies made cigarettes, they'd be cool again. Take shareholders, corporations, financial statements, etc out of the mix and toss in good old fashioned American bootlegging/moonshiner rogue fantasies, and any product under the Sun gets a lot cooler in the public imagination.

Marijuana is run by various cartels that are on par in greed, power, tyranny and monopolistic power as cigarettes via government/Big Tobacco, but because everyone knows/knew at least one dedicated chiba monkey growing hippie lettuce in their dorm room or attic, marijuana seems more folksy and personal. IT's nothing of the sort and it's a big corporate business of selling a destructive habit to easily addicted souls same as freaking tobacco.

Ridiculous.

I've grown my own for over 20 years, and so have millions of others. Take a look at the P&L reports of hydroponic supply shops.

You have no idea what you are talking about, you are just projecting based on your sour attitude towards a plant you know little about.

I'm 61, and this "addicted soul's" "destructive habit" is up to 47 years now. When is it supposed to catch up with me?

That is caused by smoke, not marijuana. Tobacco smoke, marijuana smoke, campfire smoke, BBQ pork smoke, diesel smoke, etc. All are bad for your lungs.

Reducing the amount of smoke you inhale at one time will dramatically reduce your smoke induced coughing. I am not a medical doctor, but I stand behind my statement $100%.

It is a destructive habit. Smoking anything is bad for you. Marijuana just replaces nicotine with THC as the active ingredient the user gets hooked on. You light a substance on fire and inhale the smoke. This is not what your pulmonary and cardiovascular systems were designed around. That it hasn't killed you doesn't negate the innumerable facts about the health and wellness downsides to smoking ANYTHING.

But marijuana is seen as good because you grow your own instead of some farmer selling his tobacco crop to RJ Reynolds or Phillip Morris, and Americans like the plucky individual thumbing their nose at "The System" while they generally hate Big Corporation and Big Profit, etc.

You fit into a leftist cultural narrative that is positive, and cigarettes are in a leftist cultural narrative that is bad. Pretty simple. No need to go all ad hominem on me because you rock the ganj.

And PS - if you've done anything regularly for 47 years, that's an addiction, no scare quotes required. And it will catch up with you, smoking generally catches up with everyone. Some people manage to escape an become the one in a million example of beating the odds, but everyone else has the odds beat them. Good on you if you can hit the pipe regularly and live to be 100, but I doubt you find too many doctors recommending it as a path to longevity, eh?

I clipped a lot of junk out of your reply, because I have addressed it many times, and you are not open minded about this anyway.

I picked this one comment of yours just to point out how flawed your logic is. Do you really expect many doctors to be on board, considering the plant has been so illegal for the last 80 years that even researching it can result in jail time?

Not hardly. We (the USA) are well behind the curve on cannabis research. If you were interested in learning, you would research the amount of research that has been done overseas on this plant.

But you aren't interested. You just want to hang onto the propaganda that you have been taught all your life, instead of seeing what's changed.

My 47 years of usage is not an anomaly at all. There are MILLIONS like me all over the country. But most are in the closet about it, because in some states if their secret were discovered it could destroy their life. It's a good example of how the prohibition of the plant is causing much more damage than the plant ever could.

See you at 100!

BTW, I am a conservative republican.

It doesn't matter what is "cool" or not. Both should be legal. The question is irrelevant anyways. People aren't being incarcerated for a decade for smoking a cigarette in the privacy of their own home.

Aren't there a LOT of chemicals (poisons) added to cigarettes for "taste, flavor, and smoothness?" Aren't these chemicals more dangerous than the actual tobacco?
