Turning it into an IRA means fundamentally changing it so much, yes, it means eliminating. Certainly, it means eliminating the guaranty of a minimum floor under which no one would fall.

Certainly if social security is so great, we could make it voluntary since everyone with a brain will flock to it anyway as an INCREDDDDDDDIBLE investment vehicle for retirement? Am I right?

The whole point is it is universal and without a doubt if people could opt out then they would but as soon as they lose all their money in the Wall St casino they'll cry crocodile tears about how unfair it all is and how they didn't know and how they should really get the old social security guaranty back. How about we just skip all that nonsense and keep the current system since it works well for everyone?

Democrats, do you know why the GOP will never die out or be permanently replaced by you? Because, NEWS FLASH, YOU AREN'T POPULAR EITHER!

The GOP is getting an F from voters, but guess what, your're getting a nice fat D- yourself, and last I checked, that's nothing to brag about.
Agreed.

Back in the day when the Repubs under Reagan won the POTUS: the Dems were looking real bad under Carter.
