I just caught a story on the television show 20/20. I'll provide a link to the online video of the story below.

The story was about a website called 'MissTravel.com' and it's a service and venue for wealthy men to "find a beautiful travel companion". The man buys a woman a plane ticket and is expected to pay for everything on the trip. The site state's that it's service is provided "100% free for attractive girls". The reporter narrating the story said scouring the over 100,000 profiles on the site, there were a "few" people looking for genuine love, but plenty of women seeking "sugar daddies" and men seeking "no strings attached". It was a vague statement, but sounds like to me the former are in the minority or at least it's the norm on the site to be openly seeking of the types of "relationships" I just described - which are arguably advanced prostitution, if one side is benefitting outside of being sexually/romantically gratified. In the how it works video on the website it states, speaking to women, "are you attractive, but don't have the money to travel?".

Anyway, do you think this website is a form of advanced prostitution? Obviously the owner of the site and many participants will argue against it being prostitution because of the stigma attached. But even if it is prostitution, it's questionable of whether there's anything wrong with that or not or least if it shouldn't be illegal, but that's too big of a question for this thread. Remember, streetwalkers AKA working-class prostitution is where a lot of the stigma comes from because it's crude, etc. But quite frankly prostitution is prostitution. It's just that people of higher socioeconomic status do things differently - which is true of many activities, not just prostitution. So another question is whether prostitution is okay for middle-class+ because of the way the socioeconomic culture dictates it happen or if there is something wrong with prostitution period. My definition of prostitution is "The practice or occupation of engaging in sex with someone for payment" and "payment" doesn't necessarily have to be money.

They're just high end escorts really. It's not new, for years now the highest paid women in the profession can and did enjoy fany trips abroad and such.

Have you ever been alone in a beautiful and romantic far away place? How does it feel?

There are men who pay escorts just for companionship, and I'm not kidding you. Would that be prostitution to you?

I read a story not too long ago about some NYC female students using match.com to get first dates to take them out to nice resturants, buying them drinks, etc before they meet up with their regular friends later in the evening, without the match guy of course. Would that be prostitution?

I know you defined it using money for sex, but just curious if now find paying for a woman's time and attention acceptable? Or maybe it's always been one of those unspoken rules. Any thoughts on webcam girls?

Things are changing so much these days with post-feminism (women deciding for themselves), modern values (exposure to porn at early ages), and technology, it's hard to keep up. And no doubt you well see generational differences with the replies to this thread.

P.S.: Good luck keeping it on the topic.

I'd say it's not prostitution but it's creepy and definitely not love.

I agree, it's a click or two past creepy... it is also sad.

I don't want a woman to be my paid companion. I want her to want to be with me, for me and the fun of traveling together.

If consenting adults want to do this, fine, even if it might draw dangerously close to prostitution, again, these are all consenting adults....so who gives a rip..... I don't care a prostitution per se any ways....

It's just not my bag personally....

Maybe they aren't having sex. And even if they are, whatever. I'd probably never do it (don't think my man would allow it! )

The only thing that would worry me is traveling overseas with a stranger.

I've posted on this topic before. I say it will be whatever you perceive it to be. If you can't separate the money from the sex, it will always be prostitution to you, whether you are looking for a travel companion, a sugar baby or any form of companionship. There are a lot of guys out there who think a $15 dinner entitles them to sex because they are johns, at the core.

You'd be surprised. A lot more of those men are looking for love than you might think, even outside of their marriages. Some of them feel their money is their foot in the door. Some are compensating for their inability to commit. Some are paying for the ability to not be accountable to someone. Some men are looking to pay for sex and some women are selling it. They are not all desperate, balding old men who can't get it otherwise.

And, again, I will say, if someone has never done it, how can they presume to know what it is, or isn't? Don't let the media be your life coach.

I didn't actually mean to publish this thread. I decided I didn't want to at the last minute, but somehow hit submit anyway. This subject is tired and it is what it is. Whatever. But....

Personally, I think anything that is bordering on prostitution or close is prostitution. Keep it simple stupid.
