Why do the police "need" a .50 caliber rifle? Being hit by one is "cruel and unusual" punishment in my book.

Given that the .50 cal is like an AR, meaning it is generic and there are numerous people who make the generic model, who cares? That dinky company wasn't going to make a single sale to NYPD anyway so this is just cheap publicity to fool stupid people.

If someone's going to shoot me I'd rather it be 1-.50cal than 15-9mms or .22s.

WTF does the NYPD need a .50 cal for? Their SWAT teams are already integrated with FBI SWAT and Homeland Security Special Detail detachments.
