Um, no, that's just not correct (and your link doesn't support your assertion).
Marriages do not and have never fallen under the Full Faith and Credit Clause. An interracial marriage performed in California in 1950 was not and did not have to be recognized under Florida law. Here in Colorado I can marry my 1st cousin. Texas would not have to recognize that marriage - in fact, Texas does not recognize such a marriage, and in Texas trying to get such a marriage recognized is a criminal offense.
What I'm hoping will happen is that in the Prop 8 case the Supreme Court offers a wide ruling that strikes down all state laws banning gay marriage as unconstitutional and just settles the issue once and for all.
That would be nice. I am not as hopeful on Prop 8 though. Not with people like Clarence Thomas up there. Even though his own marriage would have been illegal in his state of residence (Virginia) not may years ago.
LOL @ the silly idea that gays are not free and have no dignity in the US.
Feel free to move to the middle east to see what freedom and dignity really means to gay people. Or even France.
The ole "don't like it then move" argument. Very effective. Listen, if you lived in a society that is supposedly "free" & "the greatest nation on earth" & you were told that it is ILLEGAL for you to marry your girlfriend/boyfriend but not illegal for others, how would you react?
gays dont have it good in america at all, apart from few cities like san francisco, nyc, boston, palm springs etc...
USA is so behind western Europe in terms of equality its actually shocking. Its also far behind Canada.
It is shocking. It's also a no brainer. The U.S. is supposed to be the best country in the world, progressive, innovative. What a crock when even the basics of nondiscrimination are missing.
France has had a nationwide "civil unions" law since 1999.
And far more straight couples have taken advantage of civil unions in France than marriage because CU's are easier to dissolve. And *that* weakens the institution of marriage far more than allowing same sex couples to enter into civil marriage.
This is where Nevada comes in. It is perhaps the only state that requires NO residency to get legally married. You can literally fly in, get married, and be gone within a few hours if you desire. This is why gays need to lean hard on Nevada to legalize gay marriage.
This is not going to happen. Here in Nevada the only way to change our constitution is by the people voting for it. (This is why there will never be a state income tax here either). Simply put, in order for gay marriage to become the law here you would have to get it put on the ballet, get it to pass, then two years later have it on the ballet again and have it pass again, then and only then would it become law. Back in 2002 we voted for and passed Question 2 which amended our constitution and banned same sex marriages. But there will be no major lawsuit here because at the same time our state government passed law that allows same sex couples to create a domestic partnerships which gives them the same rights as married couples.

Reason: messed up a date.
Legal gay marriage will be a reality in America very soon. In another 50 years the Republicans will take credit for it though.
Repped and a great big .
