Fortunately truth is a defense to defamation. Futhermore, Rush would have to show "damages". Even if Rush shot up heroin on TV his dittofans wouldn't believe it and he would suffer no damages. But thanks for the threat.

I think it is only considered defamation if it is not true. Most of his comments are already public knowledge. We all know he evaded the draft, married and divorced 3 times, had some drug issues. I didn't know about his sex tourist escapades, though.

I wouldn't even put myself on the "left", but I know a phony when I see one. But none of the statements I made are defamatory. Rush was asked point blank why he went to the D.R. (known for sex tourism) on his own with a bag full of illegally pescribed viagra and he didn't respond- he avoided the question. he is more than free to clear that up. As far as the welfare, draft dodging, and being divorced, I don't see how these verified facts are defamatory. And clearly he is a drug addict (he used so many drugs it caused him to go deaf). His gluttony is well documented.
His "short lived" show ran for 4 years and they had sponsors all lined up to do a fifth, but rush canceled it because it was a drain on his time.
I don't doubt that Rush's show had good ratings. But that doesn't really prove anything. American Idol also has good ratings and they're of comparable educational value.
