Since bi-polar is a form of insanity, I think there should be some regulation regarding guns. Until a few years ago, it was known as being manic/depressive. Many are willing to take the necessary medicine so as to live a normal life, but, some aren't.
You're bi-polar, that's a serious mental illness which is linked to violence and many of these shooters have similar issues. You SHOULD be denied firearms.
There SHOULD be a stigma against people who have severe mental health issues that want to own weapons.
I'm all for gun ownership and am a big fan of shooting ranges and responsible hunting. I don't see why someone with severe mental health issues (being diagnosed with bipolar disorder requires some pretty serious issues, you won't get diagnosed with that if you're someone who is "normal") should be allowed to have a gun.
If your mental health issue was enough for you to seek help, clearly you have trouble keeping yourself in control...so why again should I be happy about you being armed?
Where is the proof of this. I'm seriously curious. From what I've know of bipolar disorders, they aren't necessarily violent.
I've also not seen where these shooters are ONLY bipolar. I'd like to see your proof of that also.
You also might want to look up the purpose of the 2nd Amendment. Here's a hint: it has nothing to do with hunting.

Denying those that are bipolar access to handguns would NOT have stopped Sandy Hook.
It's funny, if I really wanted to shoot people, I wouldn't be concerned about the legality of my gun. It's not like if I have the urge to go on a massacre, I'd be stopped because I couldn't own a gun legally.
Nobody should register a gun. There are no advantages and lots of disadvantages to gun registration.
Bipolar disorder is a big deal. Such folks can lose touch with reality in their manic or depressive phases. Not saying they are like that all the time, but it would be very bad to have such a person strutting around with a high mag. glock.

In my heart of hearts, I know the above to be true. I will not ever support such measures to limit gun ownership solely on the basis of a diagnosis of mental illness. Such an idea goes against everything I believe in.
However, I also admit I have a bias on the topic, based on personal experience. That experience tells me mental illness can cause otherwise peaceful people to turn violent. If and when that happens, there are a lot of lethal options available to someone that don't include guns. But an easy to come by gun may not help either.
I do not have an easy and quick, definitive answer. I will say, I don't think all mentally ill people should automatically be precluded from gun ownership. On the other hand, exclusion after a psychiatrist or two classifies a person as dangerous and or institutionalization is something we, as a society, need to consider.
