For years, federal law enforcement officials and gun control advocates have complained that the NICS gun records are not complete, making it easier for people with criminal records and mental illnesses to buy guns.

A key factor in strengthening the NICS database, they say, is getting states to report more information on mental health and criminal history records.

Not quite true. "Gun Control" advocates have NOT generally been calling for increased reporting and accurate data of those adjuducated mentally incompetant to be added to the NICS database. In fact, many have complained that this is somehow "unfair" to the mentally ill. It is the NRA and legal gun owners that have asked for this. So-called "gun control" groups have called for infringement of the rights of all people in order to not "single out" the mentally ill.

No, they elected him to legalize gay marriage, free the Blacks from their chains, give amnesty to the illegals and make sure the Obamacare subsidies stay in place for next year and keep greedy, CEO loving Republicans out of the White House.

Gun control was not a campaign issue.

This database won't do anything to further gun control. It's data collection for future use.
And turn all guns into the ATF..what for, so they can ship them down to Mexico ?
