So trying to make the planet a cleaner and better place to live means the policy is destructive? Wow.

Firstly, it is a proposal. You can't censure people just because you don't like what they say. You just made a thread about "Liberals" preventing Ben Carson from speaking at a University, and how wrong it is to censure people from speaking. Even though the University just decided on another speaker, where you are going much farther.

Secondly, this is a similar tax to what they have in Europe. People walk more, there is better public transit, better health, and countries in Europe consistently have better health care and happiness scores.

Thirdly, we give huge subsidies to oil companies...so we are already paying a tax as a nation of nearly $52 billion in aggregate costs for fossil fuels a year. That money goes right from our pockets to those companies.

Global warming is happening, even the scientists who are paid by the oil and gas industry agree. People seem to get hung up on the word "theory" like it's an idea, it's not...it is a fact. Just like the theory of gravity, germ theory (that germs cause disease), the theory of electromagnetism (electricity), cell theory (the cells exist, and their operation), transition state theory (exciting molecules in a material changes its state), plate tectonics...the list goes on and on for facts you would have to dismiss by dismissing theories.

I think the tax is way out there is terms of what we can do, but something needs to be done because nearly half the country is in drought and getting hotter.

Notice how the IMF also pointed out it would reduce budget deficits ?

Yeah..paying money to the government and creating a NEW revenue stream for them is going to save the planet.
Why would the government want that revenue stream reduced ?

They are already crying that the fuel efficient cars are bringing their tax revenues down.

If they want a clean planet TAXING is not the answer.

Nothin that cant be fixed without a tax and bureaucracy.

Funny the proponents of these schemes never mention our glorious leaders burning thousands of gallons of fuel jetting across the globe to get dinner or do the talk show circuit or send troops to far away lands to live in air conditioned tents...

Why they say "Well take 60% of your savings to bail out your government"
