That's not a slur to me. To me, a slur is a word that expresses disgust, hatred, enmity etc. for a person because of their skin color, gender, sexual orientation, etc. It does more than just remind one that they are a power group or lack thereof. So saying it doesn't matter, to me, is condoning those attitudes and sentiments. Just my $.02

I doubt the 60 year old guy gave too much of a damn about whether "cracker" was truly offensive to him or not. He was too busy getting his grand daughter to safety and protecting his life I guess. And maybe the race motives behind attacks aren't that relevent. What counts is protecting innocents and bringing criminals to justice.
This thread has been educational though. I've learnt that racism isn't so bad depending on who it comes from. No really, that's an amazing thing to learn. Thank you.

Actually, if a black guy calls me a whiteboy, he's EXERTING power and flexing his muscles - not "reminding me I'm in a power group".
Not ALWAYS though. Context is important.

Yeah, but people are oppressed for their type of whiteness. In America today this is a minor problem but was very important in the past. I dunno, there may be some types of Whites who are still oppressed on account of their ethnicity, Jews for instance. There are sure lots of American Whites who dislike Jews, whether they have the power to actually oppress them is another story.
