This is a liberal country ready for real liberal policies. Yet, even with a democratic house and senate the best we could do was the Affordable Care Act, which is a conservative solution(first promoted by the Heritage Foundation in the 90's) to America's health care problem.

Liberals should call for the following:

- Universal single payer health care modeled after the Canadian system.

- guaranteed vacation time for all workers. We are the only country in the developed world that doesn't mandate by law guaranteed vacation time for workers. You have people in this country that work 50 and 60 hours a week and never get a vacation. This isn't just wrong it is IMMORAL. Everyone who works should be guaranteed paid vacation time. Even conservatives in European countries recognize the benefits of this. A rested workforce is a revitalized work force. A stressed work force is not good for society or the individual.

- gun control - universal background checks. Banishment of high capacity assault weapons. There is no reason someone should be allowed to own an AR-15. You can't make an argument for needing one.

- Campaign finance - public funding of all elections.
The population is a lot more liberal than many politicians believe.

But there is a disconnect, Democratic voters don't vote at a high rate, so even though those voters would support more liberal policies, if you don't vote...... your will as a voter is irrelevant.

Our electoral system in many ways value's land/geography over people.

Democratic voters tend to be bunched up in very large clusters around cities. conservative voters are more spread out in areas with lower amounts of people.

So because every state gets 2 senators a state like Wyoming has just as much power as Texas even though Texas has many, many, many more people, this means that smaller states have outsized power.

Even within states the same dynamic is at play, less populated areas with have outsized power in state government.

This all adds up to fairly liberal US citizens getting far more conservative state and federal government. It is a mismatch.

It won't work here. You cannot institute a system such as this in a country where so many are unhealthy and fail to take care of themselves/take responsibility for themselves first.

We already have it for seniors and it's called Medicare, expanding it for everyone wouldn't be too complicated.

Expanding Medicare to cover everyone would destroy our economy in less time than it takes to talk about it

Not to mention the *****-poor care that Medicare patients receive...

somehow every other Western democracy has figured out the health care stuff except for us.

We still have the private for profit model that does not work. It only works for the rich and for the billionaire CEO's of health insurance companies.

There is no reason someone should be allowed to own a high performance sports car. They cost too much money; they encourage the driver to speed and break the law; they are a target for theft. You can't make an argument for needing one.

Well, listen here Adolf. It isn't a case of NEEDING one. People don't NEED the majority of what they spend their money on. It is a choice, a choice reinforced by a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT. The overwhelming majority of guns are purchased for defensive purposes. You can't adequately defend if you do not have the advantage, or are not equal with your opponent. Shut up about the "NEED" for a high-capacity magazine or specific gun. It is not your place to tell people what they do or do not need, unless you are a liberal Defocrat, in which case you are so intelligent that you really do know what people need better than they do.

There are some people who don't like the idea of being the victim; who don't like the idea of subjugation and living in chains. There are some people who want the freedom to live their life the way they want to live it without self-righteous SOB's sticking their nose where they have no business simply because they think everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Liberals to a huge degree (and unfortunately some conservatives too) feel the need to micromanage people's lives.

1) Shut up
2) Let me decide for myself what I need
3) If ANYONE tries to take my guns, they'll find themselves staring at the end of my barrel.

As a Liberal Democrat I am appalled that we are still in the Middle East protecting both the Saudi Royals and the Israeli colonizers. Both should be able to protect themselves. We need to spend our money rebuilding this country not rebuilding Iraq or Afghanistan.

I am also a Liberal that believes that Liberal is derived from Liberty and the Democrats insistence on ineffective gun control laws not only weaken the individual citizen's ability to defend themselves but are also unnecessary restrictions on free individuals.
I just love how you Lefties are trying to blame the R's for the failure that is Ocare. You guys are something else and it isn't honest.

A good majority of the ACA hasn't even been implemented yet, yet it's a failure?

I think you're confusing your own irrational disapproval with actual facts.
