I don't hate oil, and feel we should be drilling baby drill. I do hate that the government and big oil are complicit is selling us a load of crap when it comes to pricing.
"let's try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry"...
I didn't word that image (if I had I would have chosen more wisely), I just passed it on. You can beat on the messenger, but in the end, you're just beating on someone for your own self-importance.
I understand that we use less oil from the middle east, while we've increased dependence on Canada, Mexico, and we are still importing nearly 25% of our oil from OPEC members.
We are being screwed at the pump, and with the taxes the government is reaping (both at the pump and from OILCO profits) the higher the price per gallon the better, it seems.
If anyone has a better solution, let me know.
BTW: The last time I checked a Tesla is right at $100K, are stupid unreliable, and cost more tons of carbon to produce and charge (5 times more) over the life than a gas powered vehicle. Purpose defeated, try again.
So do you really think that is goig to change anything but make some fillup the day before. The only person that effects is the station owner. No wander we can't solve the larger rpoblems.
How could this possibly do a thing to impact gas sales overall?
Unless everyone in this country (including truckers) literally stopped driving for a month (or cut their normal mileage in at least half for a month) . . . the amount of gas totaled up at the end of the month is going to be basically the same as the month before - and the month afterward.
A gas out wont do it. But if everyone went in the store and charged a single pop or single item under $2 the stores would lose money. The margins on them are low and when they pay the charge % to the credit card compaines they actually lose money. That is why some stores have a $5 min on charges.
Even if no one bought gas on 04/15, the total receipts for the week would be the same with everyone buying gas the day before or the day after. The gasoline supply-chain is a lot more than 24 hours long, you know.
Adjusting the day of the week on which you buy gas isn't protesting the price of gas. It's completely nonsensical.
The only message being sent is "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING BUT IT GIVES ME A WARM FUZZY ... SO THERE!".
I'm sure Exxon is quaking in their boots...
Unless you plan on boycotting gas for at least several weeks, it's a pointless stunt. That's like boycotting Walmart on Monday but going on Tuesday. Business don't care if you pay them one day later or earlier, as long as you pay them promptly.
I know that ultimately it'll make little difference. But litttle messages are better than none at all.
This is almost as dumb as Earth Hour...
