Yes it's sort of a waste of time to charge a 7 year old with a felony which is why the prosecutor should have tried to find a way to charge the parents.
Letting a 7-year-old wander around the neighbourhood armed with a deadly weapon is a real good idea ! I don't see why they can't charge the parents with child neglect and public endangerment.

Agreed, but they're brilliant compared to the person(s) who decided to take it out on the boy.

The chances of it being a deadly weapon are slim. Unless we are talking birds and frogs.

Maybe she didn't like the neighbors.

Oh really? I don't think so. I just posted this, but I'll do it again. This was just a few days ago.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A 10-year-old Polk County boy who was shot in the head with a BB gun has died.

Skyler Richardson was accidentally shot by his 13-year-old brother at close range last week near their home in Frostproof.

Investigators said the boys recently were given Daisy Powerline 880S BB/pellet guns and were firing at targets outside when the older brother accidentally shot his sibling.

Or this case from last week. It wasn't a BB gun, but what it shows is that too many children in this country have access to guns. And I hope they do charge the parents in the case below.

"Orlando police have identified the 12-year-old killed by his older brother in an accidental shooting last week as Christian Velez.

The 16-year-old shooter will not face charges in his little brother's death, police spokesman, Jim Young, said after the incident Friday.

The boy told police he shot Christian because he thought his brother was an intruder trying to break into his family's Lake Nona home, Young said.

Their parents were not home at the time and could still face charges in the death of their young son."

Well that settles it.
Someone has actually died from a BB gun.
We need to ban them immediately to stop this epidemic of death and destruction.

Was it a black "scary" looking BB gun? Maybe it will be enough to limit the number of BB's that can be available at any one time.

Why would any parent want their child to have a "toy" that could kill them or someone else? Children and guns are not a good combination. Give them a soccer ball.

Here's another one earlier this year. :

"January 15 , 2013: FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -
A ten-year-old boy is shot with a pellet gun near Tollhouse and dies. Neighbors in the Tollhouse community cannot believe a pellet gun could be capable of killing a child.

Deputies at the scene confirmed that the boy was shot with a pellet gun at close range, and the projectile traveled right into his chest."

A bb gun isn't a dangerous weapon. I've shot my brother numerous times and he is still alive.
