And here is a more specific definition for flordia.bob, just so we are all on the same page.

It must be an individual weapon with provision to fire from the shoulder (i.e. a buttstock);
It must be capable of selective fire;
It must have an intermediate-power cartridge: more power than a pistol but less than a standard rifle or battle rifle;
Its ammunition must be supplied from a detachable magazine rather than a feed-belt.
And it should at least have a firing range of 300 meters (1000 feet)
Rifles that meet most of these criteria, but not all, are technically not assault rifles despite frequently being considered as such. For example, semi-automatic-only rifles like the AR-15 (on which the M16 rifle is based) that share parts or design characteristics with assault rifles are not assault rifles, as they are not capable of switching to automatic fire and thus are not selective-fire capable. Belt-fed weapons or rifles with fixed magazines are likewise not assault rifles because they do not have detachable box magazines.
Enough of this phony argument. Suffice it to say assault weapons should be banned or "well regulated".

All firearms are "well regulated" now. The regulations simply aren't enforced... More regulation that won't be enforced will not change anything.... Enforce what you have now....

They already are. So I don't know why you are so enamored with ar15's? They are not assault rifles by definition.

But common sense - as used to promote most gun bans and magazine controls - is just wrong. The facts say otherwise.

I just saw where Harry Reid got federal funds to build a firing range in Nevada back in 2010 and he appeared at the opening with Lapierre, I think he might be pro gun. The NRA is doing their best to derail background checks even though they were for them a few years ago, along with the assault weapons ban. Unfortunately money speaks louder than anything else in politics.

The NRA supported Reid in his reelection. I knew that and that Harry and the NRA go way back.
Harry, who is usually pretty vocal in backing up what the WH wants was pretty quiet and stayed in the background if you haven't noticed.

When Feinstein's bill was getting too close for comfort Harry stepped in and practically killed it.
