Either Obama is a total dope or he thinks the GOP is even dopier.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will offer cuts to Social Security and other entitlement programs in a budget proposal aimed at swaying Republicans to compromise on a deficit-reduction deal, a senior administration official said on Friday.

Obama budget to offer program cuts, seek deficit deal: official

But Obama wants tax increases in return for offering to apply a less generous measure of inflation to calculate cost-of-living increases...in other words, stiff retirees and old people. And raise their taxes. Sounds like a real win/win for you Democrats, you get to totally screw with the GOP's base.

No wonder the GOP thinks Obama is out to destroy them.

But one thing we learned from the Democrats is Social Security deficits dont add to the federal debt, so why would it help when they make cuts?

His budget will end up calling for more spending and taxes now for "promised" cuts later. That has absolutely no chance of going anywhere.

He's doing what he's done all along - being a moderate pragmatist. That's WHY I like him. Folks on the Right always try and make him out to be "extreme Left" (as folks on one side ALWAYS try to do to the other side) - but ask folks who are REALLY on the "extreme Left" and they'll tell you that they don't think he's "extreme Left" at all - and they are right.

It's a legit offer, the GOP can make of it what they will.

Cuts to SS which is funded by our FICA taxes ?
SS is supposed to be a separate trust. Raise FICA instead like they did years ago.

Since you haven't seen his proposal, you do not know if it's a legit offer do you?

Oh please, if a GOP member was suggesting cuts in Social Security, you'd be screaming about how they hate the poor and old.

You are acting as Obama ballon tester. Obama floats the proposal by way of an un named "official" with lots of details. Sees how it floats.

How do you like working for the Obama machine?

No I wouldn't.
SS clearly has a problem - and I've said so many times. It's NOT an insurmountable problem and not nearly as severe as that of Medicare but it IS a problem. The demographics of the Babyboomer wave needs to be addressed in regards to how it impacts SS funding and payments. That's kind of a "no-brainer".
