Well, gee, we could actually educate the minors. Education in schools about sex and the human reproductive system. With pictures of the ovaries and everything!

Oh, yeah, can't do that. The religious right, who will die believing they must tell everyone else what they should do, doesn't want to face up to the fact that minors have reproductive systems. And they really don't want to face up to the fact that minors are having sex.

And they stomp their feet and hold their breath until their faces turn blue if someone even suggests the precious little Bible studying minors in their own homes are having sex.

Better to just let all those minors tell each other whatever rumor they've heard. Minors will get pregnant. Minors will get VD. And the religious right will be able to stand outside PP and protest that those female minors are actually going inside a PP building for medical care. Because that's what really turns them on. Monitoring the sex lives of anonymous women.

Next stop: the pharmacy counter! "Young lady don't kill your baby!" "Umm... Not that it's your business, but I'm here to get my pimple cream."

Yeah, them too.

Then who is responsible..the minors ?
They can't drive and they don't have that type of money.
They can walk; take the bus; they have friends who can drive. Some few might have $25. Most start working at age 15-16, although I guess that's down with the recession.

You can't go saying "sure they can have that pill without your parents knowing" and not provide the ways and means for them to get it. That's a half-*ssed solution.

Now it's openly discussed and the focus is on contraceptives to prevent pregnancy and STDs. Minors having sex is accepted. It's dealt by the schools like it was a commonplace occurrance. I've seen some of the health books used in middle school and it just comes across that there's nothing wrong with having sex at an early age as long as you have protection. IMHO that is indirectly promoting it.

And if this pill becomes available to minors the cost and transportation to get this pill within 24 hours needs to be addressed since this can be done by minors without parental permission or prescription.

Will schools now take up that responsibility ? The 12-15 crowd can't drive and typically don't have an extra $35-$60 in their wallets. You can't give them a partial "easy out" by making this pill available.
You also have to consider how they can get it and how they can pay for it by themselves.
Who are you saying should provide the ways and means? The judge? Just who? Why should it be the schools' responsibility? That's a logic failure of the first order. Or, you're being deliberately obtuse.

All it is is a large dose of birth control. They could have the same effects themselves just by taking a bunch of birth control all at once.

Sex education starting in 5th grade has been employed in the schools for quite a number of years now.

I certainly hope you're being flippant and really don't believe that.

Can't believe people are willing to promote sex and the MAP for children under 17, notice there is NO AGE barrier, so this means all ages are free to have sex.........this is leading down a very creepy path for our kids.
Just because a person has sex how does one know they're pregnant the next day? If a person is not pregnant just what is the pill destroying then? Amazing what people are willing to ingest..........

Sex ed starts in 5th grade. 12-16 are minors. Of course not all 12 year olds are actively having sex but they are out there and this law does apply to them as well.

Sex is happening in middle school now among the younger crowd.
All the more reason to allow them access.

This is an after the horse has bolted medication.

It has nothing at all to do with preventing teen sex. Obviously, by this point, all attempts to do so have failed. Teen pregnancy is a terrible burden on all involved. By all means try and stem it at the root.

But, if there's a way to prevent pregnancy at 12, especially if they've already had sex, then I don't see the issue with this one particular avenue.

Um, they are ALREADY FREE TO HAVE SEX.

The rest of this post makes it obvious that is not just the teens who need a bit of education.

S/he is correct. Before the MAP, some docs gave a high dose of BCP for the same thing.
Using Regular Prescription Birth Control Pills as Emergency Birth Control Pills

Are you making this up or is your school district more concerned about not educating the kids about sex? I'm in a red state and the school had no problem showing the kids pictures of reproductive organs and why sex is natural. What the kids did find funny was how embarrassed most of the teachers were to talk about it or didn't know how to talk about it.
