You said this was "clearly a wrongful death" and that hasn't actually been determined yet. This wrongful death civil suit may have been settled but this death may very well have been justified. I don't care about some HOA insurance company paying out a settlement, that's why the HOA pays for a policy.
Did you know that people involved in auto accidents where someone dies get sued in "wrongful death" cases?? Of course you didn't. "Wrongful death" is defined in civil law. It has nothing to do with what you think the definition is.
You don't understand what these terms mean legally. CLEARLY, the HOA was sued in a wrongful death (civil law legal term) and chose to settle. The amount of the settlement is private. The lawsuit is SETTLED. I'm guess that if, in fact, Zimmerman is convicted that the HOA insurance company would have been in a position to pay far more money, so they got out while they could for as little money as possible.
The HOA isn't paying this money, their insurance company is and you can bet their attorneys want no part of a trial over money when dealing with uncivilized people who want to profit from the death of their son.
I can guarantee you would sue if some wanna be cop killed YOUR kid for walking down the street in a neighborhood the wanna be thought he shouldn't be in.
IF the HOA attorneys thought they had a good case - it wouldn't matter one whit to them if they thought they were dealing with 'uncivilized people'.
They're attorneys. That's what they do.
It's easier just to throw a million dollar offer out there and end it quickly instead of drawing this out which would end up in the media. You've got a money hungry family, the insurance company knew they would jump all over a large cash offer or at least come back with a higher counter offer.

Ah, the rich irony of this post.
Why don't you just say it? You know you want to. You're perfectly anonymous here. You don't have to fear social ostracism or a threat to your job. Just show some stones and say it.

I might but that's not what took place in this case so it really doesn't matter.
The HOA wouldnt be cutting the bills for the legal fees, the insurance company does.
And no, they wouldnt just go to trial, its called loss mitigation..
The insurance company is in the business of cutting lots and lots of checks for legal fees. Your assertion was that they would pay money in order to avoid dealing with 'uncivilized people'.
I merely said that was incorrect and it is. They care not about whether people are civilized or not.
Again, if they thought they had a strong case - they wouldn't be paying out a million dollars. A couple hundred thousand maybe. Obviously they were worried a jury would award much, much more.

Say what?
