What do you think of Jane Fonda (or "Hanoi Jane" as she is known to some)? (racism, economy)

I'm old enough to remember and you should remember how high tempers were running on both sides, the reasons we went to Vietnam were lies to begin with. Bay of Tonkin never happened.
How do you feel about your government bombing areas of Laos because they weren't allowed to bring live bombs back to bases in Thailand? How about our excursions into Cambodia.
I think you guys have selective memories and are using Jane Fonda as a convenient scapegoat.
I think some of the Bush administration, including the president and vice-president are bigger traitors than Fonda could ever be. We're now involved in a war where 4,000 military members are dead, countless numbers wounded, Iraqi collateral damage deaths not even counted.

What's the greater evil here?
Bay of Tonkin incident was not the original OP.
Disposal of bombs over Cambodia or Thailand again was not the original OP.
Also I don't recall seeing any thing about Bush and Iraq in the original OP.
Further more I'm not interested in being chided as having selective memories. Believe me that period of my life is still very, very, vivid.
I was old enough to remember it to.
And the last time a hippie mouthed of to me it was at the airport when I came home. She spit on me and I knocked her lights out.
Was that You????

sassyone, you might want to relook that information. Some were treated badly, but not the majority. Mostly they were forgotten, people didn't want to look at them or interact with them because of a vastly unpopular war. A great number ended up homeless and/or addicted to drugs. It was terrible. No one wanted that war, but not everyone had the experience Bunky says he did.
And Bunky, if you read my posts, you will see that I'm a Vietnam Era Vet. So I was probably in the military at that time.
The viet Nam Vets were treated horribly when they came home, I never could understand that. I hope that our men and women when they return from Iraq will not be treated the same. If a person does not agree with why we are there, it has no bearing on the troops that are there. If you see one, shake his hand and tell him Thank You, and if you want to protest, protest for better VA benefits.

It was an unpopular war and so has this one become. I think it was convert 54 that was replying to you. I may have made it sound like the majority was treated badly, but non should have been treated that way. In any case chiegirl Thank You for your service

Vietnam was not my time period to say the least. But, both of my parents are Vietnam vets. My mom was a Corman (sp) in the Navy and worked on a hospital boat off of the Philippines. I can tell you the war greatly influenced my life as it was definitely a PART of my parents.
I really don't care who you are or what your agenda is, if you go to another country and in anyway disrespect the people who are willingly giving their lives for you, you are a TRAITOR and should be forced to leave this country or go to trail and answer for your actions.
Natalie Maines, traitor. Jane Fonda (my Dad has a better name for her...Commie B****) TRAITOR.
It always baffles me that people say, freedom of speech to some how explain just downright BAD behavior. It is one thing to not agree with a war and have a rally or a protest. But, when you leave AMERICAN soil and do it, not OK with me.
No matter if you support the war or not, there is no excuse for not supporting the troops. They are doing THEIR JOB. I am sure most men and women in the military would much rather be at home with their families then be in a conflict or war, but that is the JOB they have.
So, do me a favor and leave them alone, shake the hand of a soldier, give them your seat, but stop hating them for doing their job.
I have no tolerance for someone who attacks a soldier. To me, that is treasonous. It is like biting the hand that feeds you. Lets hate the person who protects the right to spew such hate and be protected under the law.

Good post and I would like to add: We do have freedom of speech in this country, but
I think it is disgusting that "Americans" are allowed to stomp or burn our flag and protest outside funerals for our fallen hero's with signs saying they are glad they are dead and wished more would die. I wish there was another country we could send those scum to.
