I don't know. Probably half religious reasons and half because the status quo is easier than change. Who would support the legalization of prostitution. Only libertarians, the right won't because of religion and the left wont because it would be "taking advantage" of women, like they couldn't make their own mind up.

Default Should prostitutes be allowed to claim welfare?

In some counties in Nevada prostitution is legal, so in those areas I think they should be allowed to collect un-employment benefits if they have paid into a government required fund, same with welfare payments. If they pay taxes, then they are entitled to welfare just like anyone else, as long as their occupation is legal.

how about those who work illegally as prostitutes - should they be allowed to claim welfare?

And how about wages - what should they be paid?

I wasn't aware of that, but I'd still be concerned with the possibility of young runaways finding themselves entwined in a sorry occupation with no means of escape if we were to allow prostitution.
Right, because young runaways nowadays NEVER find themselves entwined in the crack-infused, violent and abusive prostitution associated with pimps.
Make it legal, establish brothels and the girls would be a lot safer.

and how about the girl or guy who actually wants to do this kind of work out of choice?

why shouldn't they be allowed to?

Hardly pro-business is it now

Kenneth, where in the heck have you been my fellow C-D member, they already do!

But, I'm not so sure they pay any taxes, they usually weasel their way out of that part.

Please, let's not confine this argument to female human beings, there are male prostitutes too.

[QUOTEhe=shooting4life;29040892]Only in America is it illegal to sell something that you can give away for free.[/quote]

that has nothing to do with the question and is a totally different topic. No one asked you if it should be legal, I happen to agree but legal or not, the question is: should Prostitutes be allowed to collect welfare and the answer, of course should be no. BTW, I don't know where you get your ideas, but it isn't illegal everywhere in our country. It is left up to the states and counties.

I'll bet if they reported thier income to the state that they wouldn't qualify for welfare.

Right. The cops can't do anything even if you screw 100 people a day. But even if a single nickel changes hands and they see it....off to jail you go. So unbelievably asenine.

Anyway..no welfare for the prosties.

Considering the size and scope of sex slavery in the USA, an estimated 100,000.....I have to agree.

FYI- with regards to the making it illegal to stop the spread of VD....I can see that. Lewis and Clarks expedition was struck by a VD outbreak and on the return trip as he got back to the frontier he forbid his men from taking part when approached by madams with their girls in tow.
