Clearly gun control is a big debate on the C/D's as well as in our nation as a whole.
I don't think there is anyone, on either "side" that believes that we can ignore the fact that over 3,000 people have been murdered since the massacre at Sandy Hook.
All I ever see people talking about is guns. Gun control vs our "constitutional rights".
It's an important debate and one that is being had all over the place.
So here I'm asking from anyone wishing to drop their $0.02, forget the gun control issue in this thread.
What can we do, what needs to change in this country to avoid the shameful murder rate that we have here?
I'm hoping (though sadly not hopeful) that we can avoid the "us vs them" political nonsense. And am hoping for maybe some real life discussion...
If you are talking about murders by known-assailants (not massacres like Sandy Hook), I'm of the belief that extreme income inequality is the root cause. A secondary cause is the drug war. Address those things; homicides will decline.
Harsher penalties for crimes that involve guns and harsher penalties for having guns illegally (but no need to add tons more to the "illegal" list)
Stop the "revolving door" of thugs at many courthouses. If they keep coming back obviously they need to stay longer in the 1st place.
I'll add more as they come.
