I'd like to know where all these anti-gun control cops are. All the ones I know (dozens if not 100's) are very pro-gun control (up to and including civilian confiscation) including all the ones I hunt with.
Maybe it's the area of the country but around here in TX I've met very very few pro gun control officers.
The anti gunners CONSTANTLY bring out Mayors and Police Chiefs, the vast majority of mayors are dems AND APPOINT the Police Chiefs. If the Chiefs don't go along with the mayor's agenda they get fired, so THEIR "opinions" have NO validity.
So ow we have a pll of the "cop on the street' and you want to make fun of their opinions. How sad.
Most people with common sense give MORE credence to a "cop on the street" then political hacks.
I will listen to Officer Phil rather then Chief Hack any day.

Chicago PD is a bastion of advocating gun control.

I think you mis read, "Bottom Line Conclusions. Quite clearly, the majority of officers polled oppose the theories brought forth by gun-control advocates who claim that proposed restrictions on weapon capabilities and production would reduce crime.
As a former LEO my opinion is "I wish it was federal law that every person without a felony, mental illness or domestic violence CONVICTION BY JURY had the right to conceal carry and all states be required to pass a form of NO DUTY TO RETREAT to continue to receive federal funding"...its a basic human right to protect yourself and I for one am going to do it regardless of what some arsehole politician says.
Every person who has not been convicted of a felony, certified as mentally ill, or has been convicted of domestic violence, has the individual right to carry a firearm in Alaska, either concealed (no permit required) or openly as they see fit. You are also allowed to "stand your ground" in Alaska, where ever you are allowed to legally be.

Maryland and a few other states are like that, but, here in the southwest, just the opposite is true. Law enforcement assumes and prefers you to be armed as a citizen. I carry a CHL, when I get pulled over by a LEO, I am required to show it if I am carrying a firearm. When they run my drivers license (when I'm not carrying) and they see I have my CHL they usually ask me why I'm NOT carrying. If I am carrying and they stop me, they typically simply ask me where it is, and they never disarm me. It's very
courteous and never brought up again. It is considered to be no big deal here and we don't have daily shootings in the street.

No licenses or permits are required in Alaska, but we do have to inform any LEO if we are armed. Even if it was not required by law, I would volunteer that information anyway as a matter of common courtesy and to put the LEO's mind at ease.
I have not been pulled over by LEO east of the Mississippi River, so I cannot comment on how they would react to an armed law-abiding citizen. However, my experience with LEO's west of the Mississippi has been similar to yours.

If you are carrying in New York, Maryland, or New Jersey, plan on going to jail... There are several states that don't support the right to carry that I have stopped doing business in for that very reason. California is one as well.

My experience is in corrections and I know of too many instances of criminals getting guns in their hands illegally.
Thank you for your service and I agree whole heartedly with you.
