The felon question wasn't addressed in the OP.
If you're on mind or mood altering drugs, yes - you should be banned until such a time as your medical treatment is ended.
You want frivolous costs and your medical records to be drawn through court.
I can see a lot of people losing more than gun privileges, but their jobs.
Think things through.
There are a lot of mind/ mood altering meds, and many more that are labeled they can be. Blood pressure medications can have altering side effects. So can many, non narcotic, pain and anti inflammatory meds. Especially if combined with alcohol. But, hey, NOBODY, does THAT right?
More, flat out, stupid and dngerous things have been done under the influence of booze than has, or ever will, happen from medications. Of any kind. More people have died from cars, guns, power tools, fire, you name it, because of the influence of alcohol than we really want to know. The number would be staggering. But if you're taking meds, can't have a gun? Cabinet full of Jack Daniels, which someone might polish off a 5th each evening from, thats OK?
How many domestic violence deaths, let alone death by firearm, involve booze, do you think? Fairly high percentage? More than prescription meds, maybe? Those would be interesting numbers to compare.
I don't care if booze is legal. So are prescriptions, made out to the person taking them. This is a big factor to consider.
It's already Illegal for a 13 YO to buy a gun. You going to make it twice as illegal ?
It's already illegal for violent felons to buy a gun, same goes for mentally ill people who are dangerous, but according to you, they can get gunz anyways so let's make it legal.

So, known alcoholics shouldn't have gun licenses either.
Pretty simple.
I would say yes, but I'm not sure how it could be done. My current job is a patient sitter in a hospital and I'm around a lot of patients that shouldn't be anywhere near a weapon any time soon or ever again. With the HIPAA laws as they stand right now it wouldn't be possible. Same with domestic abusers, I would say yes but how?
A) It depends on who sets the standard for someone being a "mental patient:.
B) Is the domestic abuse confirmed or is it ones word over anothers.
It's never quite as black/white as it seems.
Amen!
