Libertarian my butt. These places sound like little HOA tyrannies that work if everyone is a white, affluent product of the suburban sheep farm. Scary places if you ask me.

Exactly- HOA's are the worst forms of government!
They are filled with people who think they have more power than they do!
HOA's are of the devil and the farthest thing from Libertarian ideals. I live the way I want and I don't have the right to tell others how to live. By the way - Somalia isn't Libertarian. That is just a tired and cheap nonsensical shot on par with calling the democrats communists.
Yep, HOA's are a sucker deal of collectivist control. The article is a perfect example of missing the point of what it means to be free, to own property, to live as you choose. I love the whole "No property taxes, but fees and requirements assessed by the HOA". Seriously, what is the frigging difference between a city government and an HOA? Nothing... same dang thing, same pretentious busy bodies in positions dictating rules and regulations according to their specified "ideal".
Again, no choice. If you want to live there, you have to pay them just like you do a city government. You can't buy property and say "well, I don't use this or that, I don't do this or that, so I won't pay for it". The only "choice" is if you are allowed to live there or not (ie you agree to their conditions, or you can't live there).
More idiots "redefining" what liberty, freedom, and choice is. The whole thing sounds like a marketing scheme to idiots who have no clue what it means to be free.
Hell, Westlake TX is more libertarian than this joke of a town.

They get stupid with it too. I once heard this woman talk about how she was the head of HOA community board and she was bragging how people have to come to her to get approval and how she could punish anyone in the community who angered her. Frigging stupid people.
OP, posting that here was pointless. These people will attack you all day for one simple reason:
They love being told what to do, say, think, and pay. An association of equals just doesn't have that same "we'll beat your ass and throw you in jail if you don't pay us" ring to it as government.

The OP didn't give an example of a libertarian city, we are still waiting for a good example of one.

Really? So.... joining up with an HOA that has a council that dictates what you can do or have on your property, that you have to pay for all their "collective" projects, etc... is being independent, a self thinker, free?
So, instead of "the gooberment" being your master, you establish a given few to rule over the people like lords?
/sigh
We are doomed if such is now considered free as we are too stupid to live free.
