Absolutely NOT. The President should not be attending the funeral of Margaret Thatcher who hasn't played an active role in politics for 25 years.

Britain doesn't seem too worked up about it; why should you be.

If Obama wants to be seen as an international figure he had better get with the program...If the Queen attends- He should attend. He just does not get it- The Queen controls one of the oldest and most powerful corporations on earth- She is not just a figure head...besides the Queen was a friend of Thatcher. Obama goes for the superficial social status that entails going to a Hollywood party. He had better learn to deal with the real movers and shakers not just film personalities who really have no power.

I literally never thought that I would read a post by a modern-day person who believes that 1) the Queen of Great Britain is 'not just a figure head' (hint: her annual speech to the British Parliament is not written by her; she must read what she is given; she is a figure head, nothing more), or 2) that she controls 'one of the oldest and most powerful corporations on earth' (I have no idea what that means, unless the poster is one of those Lyndon LaRouch people who believe the Queen heads the Drug Cartels), or 3) that the Queen was a 'friend' of Ms. Thatcher (even the former Prime Minister would have been surprised by that statement).

The funeral has already taken place...it is in the past now. Why are some of you going on as if it hasn't happened yet?

Yes, the Queen attended, (note past tense), but to say they were friends is a bit of a stretch.

The royal family are business people with interests in many companies. How big do you think a business can grow in 500 years? American corporations are upstarts - there is no comparison to the width and scope of British enterprise. As for the drug cartel comment...I really don't know if the old opium trade is still a part of the elite economy. If Bill Gates was to pass away - I am sure the president might make an appearance.

What if Baker and Schultz did not want to go?
most likely the same thing that happened when ghw bush declined the offer to go as a US representative, another relevant representative was asked.

Obama can only 'send' those he has the authority to send.
so, the WH/state department selected, asked, organized and paid for the representatives as the official US delegation to attend thatcher's funeral but, because baker and schultz are not part of the current administration and/or military, you feel they were not "sent" and that has your panties in a bunch, correct?
