War on Terror, is fighting against terrorism mean we are going downhill?

Gun rights is not a bad thing in my opinion. We have legal abortions, "Christian"? as in the religion? whats wrong with Christians? gays can get married, immigration reform is something to look forward to in the near future, and isnt the affordable health care act going into effect sometime in the next few years? and the economy is still the largest in the world and still growing.

We have basically handed them the blueprints for how to become a world superpower. Our large corporations have handed them the technology required to become a manufacturing power. They are still evolving from sweatshop labor, but corporations have also introduced a vast array of manufacturing technology that allows them to compete for higher value and skilled work. That includes the engineering side, allowing them to compete with those corporations, and also reverse engineer their products. Shortsightedness on our U.S. corporate clowns part may be the death of them in the not so distant future.

Pertaining to politics and direction... Let's just say, in a game of wits, political leaders in China have trumped ours at every turn. Sloth, arrogance, and complete idiocy on our leader's part has been putting our average citizens in a world of hurt.

Good points.

Superpower - A very powerful and influential nation. A combination that other countries admire, and are influenced by. A country people look to as a model for whatever purpose. General meaning.

Most of our education is old school. I was talking about how we educate, not how many educated people reside here. Not foreigners. Best Education In The World: Finland, South Korea Top Country Rankings, U.S. Rated Average I do think we lack a culture that promotes the importance of an education.

Gun rights is not a bad thing in my opinion. It's not a bad thing but it takes up time and money arguing for and against them constantly. It also cost a lot in taxes. Everyone owns a gun but pays no tax or registration, when it costs the average citizen extra for injuries, police and fire dept involvement and the E.R. If they were regulated it would save a lot of the money we pay to take care of the casualties of ownership. Just like our cars.

We have legal abortions, "Christian"? as in the religion? whats wrong with Christians? Religious political agendas do nothing for the progress of this country, they clutter the political system. IMO. It's costly at a time when costs matter.

gays can get married (they aren't recognized federally) , immigration reform is something to look forward to in the near future( yes, really to compete we need more people here not less) , and isnt the affordable health care act going into effect sometime in the next few years? (it's a dent but won't save money like a regulated pay system) and the economy is still the largest in the world and still growing. Yes, we are and I'm surprised actually. China is second but further than I though.

All in all you make me think it's not that bad actually, I do think we need to be careful not to become the rabbit as the turtle can and sometimes does win the race. All IMO, of course.

Do you think China is trying to take the position but will be unsuccessful? China has population on us though, if they all start progressing they might make it. Although, I'll be clear, I don't think it would be such a bad thing for us if we shared the burden of the world.

Thank you for your colorful response.

I hope China keeps on growing. i think it will be cool if China and USA could share the "World Superpower" title, i don't like the idea of having only one, having none would be nice but thats impossible in our lifetime.

China seems to be doing great, hopefully the quality of life gets better and they do something about air pollution.

China's rise does not equal America's demise. Both countries will advance or decline based on their own merits. There is nothing wrong with wishing the citizens of both countries to be prosperous and to enhance the world with new scientific discoveries and other innovations. The US should not feel threatened by news of the accomplishments of other countries.

We are transitioning from a unipolar to a multipolar world. This does not mean China is going to become the next or new superpower, it does mean we are no longer going to be the sole superpower, that we will have to share power with others, and yes, China might be more powerful than us when the dust settles.

That also means in 20 or 30 years we might be seeing Chinese television with subtitles in the same way others now see American sitcoms translated into their own languages.

A communist country is about to become the superpower of the world because they are more progressive than us, have a larger population, and are more involved in world expansion and current economic money makers.
If you know anything wrong with my post, or can add something better please do. I'm a layman, it's just a recent concern. I'm no expert on the world economy, or social status.
I agree with many things you wrote. However, I want to point out that China is a communist country in name only. Beginning in the late 80s, they have been full steam ahead in economic reform to a point where private industry reigns. They did not undergo political reforms and as a result, the government is simply an authoritarian government. They hold on to the title of communism to tie them to Mao and thereby being able to claim legitimacy. When questioned of how their current policies do not resemble communism, they counter by calling it "Socialism with Chinese characteristics".

For the past 14 years, I have spent a few months per year in China. It has been very interesting to see the development, especially in Shanghai.
