Blunt tied his opposition to the background check bill to the current brouhaha in Missouri, in which the Missouri State Highway Patrol obtained a list of concealed carry permit holders and turned it over to an investigator from the Social Security Administration.
“Once you get these lists out there … eventually somebody’s going to ask for it,” Blunt said.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- A federal firearms official says the agency never sought or received a list of Missouri concealed gun permit holders.
A spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the agency was not involved in an effort by the Social Security Administration to obtain the information.
Missouri senators have publicized an email from a state crime analyst indicating that the Social Security Administration wanted a "comprehensive list" of concealed gun permit holders as part of a "joint venture" with the ATF.
But ATF spokesman Mike Campbell says there was no joint venture and his agency never asked for or received the Missouri information.
A Social Security official confirmed Wednesday that the agency had no plans to involve the ATF in its investigation.
You see, senators are elected every 6 years. The 2014 election will be in districts that last voted in 08 when Obama first ran for president. Many democratic senators were elected in red states on obama's coattails. Republics turn out in greater numbers during mid term elections. All of this added together, plus a few retiring democrats in red/purple states gives republicans a good chance to pick up seats. Politics 101, happy to help.

You've got it all backwards Bob. Electoral math favors Senate Republican's in 2014. That's why Red State Democrats have refused to get on board with the gun control bill. They know what you apparently don't, and that's if they show their faces in their States having voted for gun control, they will be shown the door expeditiously. I surmise that even Harry Reid is glad that gun control didn't survive the vote because his grip on the gavel remains 100% in the hands of those 14 Democrats that could lose in November. Think things through sometime. It'll help you understand what's going on in DC.
The old school gun grabbers remember the "republican revolution" in the mid term elections after they shoved that assault weapons ban through back in the day and don't want it to happen again. You are correct Dirty Harry wanted this to fail the entire time. He made sure to separate the ban part of it into a different amendment just in case to boot. The sheep will of course continue to believe they really care about the children but in reality all they care about is retaining their power.
Those families should be ashamed that they are political pawns now. Obama should be ashamed.
