Sick US woman died in Hungary after 'airline booted her off three New York flights because she was too fat to fly' | Mail Online

I'm really surprised she was able to get on board in the first place. Although apparently she gained weight while in Hungary.

They chose NOT to see a doctor in Hungary which seems pretty stupid to me given that she was unwell.

And I'm guessing she was ineligible for medical insurance which is a necessity for anyone travelling abroad

A sad story but I don't think the airlines were at fault here.

She could probably have passed away in flight by the sounds of things

Disgusting.

Of course there will be a lawsuit. Those frivilous lawsuits would be stopped, or at least diminished, if the loser had to pay ALL court costs AND a penalty for being stupid.

Agreed.

I just don't see how this can possibly be construed as being the airlines fault.

They sought NO medical attention in Hungary.

Very sad but she and her husband made a very poor judgements in traveling as sick as she was. From the article it sounds like the airlines involved did try but this was just too unusual a situation for them to be held responsible in a big lawsuit. I fault the ambulance chaser law firm for putting that notion in the husband's mind. Plenty of blame to go around starting with the deceased wanting to make that pilgrimage home in the first place.

She was already on borrowed time and I think they knew it. That's probably why they wanted one last holiday in Hungary. In a weird way it might have been the best thing since she was then buried there, which would have been difficult to arrange if that was her wish and she died in the USA.

You may well be correct.

Whatever the circumstances I don't see why there is any basis at all for suing the airline.

Well since the airline let her travel on the outbound flight and there should have been the correct accommodation for her on the return flight.

Book a cabin on a freighter heading over. You're already on borrowed time to the extent she was, then a death at sea would not be that big a deal.

Holy crap, just look at her. She was miserable. She's in a better place. No one's fault.
