Federal law supersedes state law. For example, no state can have a min wage lower than the federal minimum.
That doesn't mean a states legislature cannot nullify that law, if they don't agree with it.
Look at Colorado and 4/20, yesterday. Where were the feds? LOL!
Ask your governor why this agency wasn't able to do anything, when you have a governor who said during the primaries he'd get rid of the EPA do you really wonder why Osha can't do there job ?
Just because you have a federal agency means nothing if the state the agency has an office set up in gets routinely underfunded and continually gets scapegoated as BIG GOVERNMENT then when things go wrong you all wring your hands and ***** like lil girls that the government doesn't work. It doesn't work because the anti-government types have been voted into office by idiots and ideologues you want lower regulations ? FINE when an industrial accident happens FORCE THE COMPANY WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE TO PAY instead of the American tax payer you bunch of leaches ! I thought republicans in this country were all about personal responsibility how about you all get together to help those affected by what happened. You want lower regulations and more business friendly atmosphere fine this is what you get R.I.P to all those who were killed in this disaster.
When you take over the country feel free to kick us out of your union.
But until then Texas pays to the Fed and is entitled to ask and receive Fed money to help with disasters.
Yet another prime example of right wing hypocrisy. First Perry and now Cruz.
The far right is always crying for "Cuts! cuts! cuts! cut everything!" Though when disaster strikes in their back yards, they are the first on their knees with their mouths open and hands reached out, begging for the president to bail them out.
What makes it even worse, is that Cruz was staunchly against the hurricane Sandy relief efforts, calling it "pork", now he is begging for the government to open the checkbook for him.
I'm going to have to agree this was a man made disaster. Seems like this is the responsibility of owners, insurers and state of Texas. Not sure what the feds have to do with this one.

This was a corporate accident not a natural disaster. How is this the feds responsibility? Sandy Aid even as gratuitous as it was at least fell under the federal government's purview.
“Hurricane Sandy inflicted devastating damage on the East Coast, and Congress appropriately responded with hurricane relief,” Cruz said in a statement earlier this year. “Unfortunately, cynical politicians in Washington could not resist loading up this relief bill with billions in new spending utterly unrelated to Sandy.”
I believe this was all gone over a few days back, sounds like you all missed it.
Some people don't know that some of the pork went to NASCAR either.

Probably get some quick relief for the town. Homes in a 5-6 block radius flattened, post office gone and a few other facilities as well as a school blown away and a nursing home.
I would think temp shelter and services for immediate relief for the people.

Wouldn't insurance cover that though? I know insurance doesn't cover an act of god or war, but this seems like it would be covered.

Call the President and complain. He's the one who approved it.
It's to give quick, temp aid to the people of the town.
A small fertilizer company probably cannot do that. Homes in a 5-6 block radius were flattened.
How many families did that leave homeless ?

Insurance will rebuilt your home but that takes more than a couple of days.
Car insurance will replace your car and I guess families can live in their cars until their homes are built.
Obama just approved $250 million to send to Syria to help fight the good fight.
And the Dems are all in a hissy fit because a Republican state asked for some money to help people from a fund they contribute to whose purpose is to provide grants after a disaster.
Texas pays to the Fed and is entitled to ask and receive Fed money to help with disasters.
The citizens of Texas whether they pay in more than they receive, or vice versa, not only have the right to ask but to receive federal assistance in times of need and emergency. The rest of us just want to those who head the government of Texas to realize that those same rights and privileges apply to the other 49 states as well.
