From the NYTimes - "Now, Koch Industries, the sprawling private company of which Charles G. Koch serves as chairman and chief executive, is exploring a bid to buy the Tribune Company’s eight regional newspapers, including The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun, The Orlando Sentinel and The Hartford Courant."

Wouldn't that be interesting, if you can't beat them, buy them. And they would probably turn a nice profit too, but it would help if they did actual reporting and quit shilling for whatever administration is in power.

Buying up a dying medium. Solid investment strategy.

They're not looking to make money; they're looking for media outlets which they can use to push their message. This is why real journalism is in a death spiral in this country.

News outlets will make their money online. The transition will be somewhat painfull but no one thinks their going to prosper in the news business without a strong online presence

Wow-

That is like an Ivy League school buying a community college. One would have to dismiss the entire "faculty" in order to maintain quality standards.

Liberal journalists of today are simply propagandists and have no relation to the news or reality. I wonder if they would even be able to find a staff of objective journalists anywhere in the US? They would probably have to "import" them,

Hence the dying medium part. Newspapers as a source of influence-peddling have declined along with their circulation. Besides all those papers take their cues (and most of their copy) from the NYT. If the Kochs were serious about using print media for their agenda that's where'd they park their money.

Sort of like the Sulzberger's at the New York Times, eh? I never read you complaining about them.

The Kochs wouldn't buy it if they didn't feel they could turn a profit. It will be the first time in probably 20 years that any of these publications will have a positive balance sheet. In addition it will create a contrast of news between the NY TImes. Somewhere in the middle, the truth will be found.. Objective journalism is dead. Every news source has an agenda.. Get accustomed to it... The freedom of the press has turned to the freedom to supress....

Just a change of flavor from the existing liberal bias, right?
