Mmmmm. I have to disagree, though my American sensibilities would like to see a needle in his arm. A zpooky horse, a tall tree and a short rope works fine though. However, the ideology this punk represents, and the people who make up that group, do not see our execution methods as something to be feared. Take a needle, go to sleep, wake up in Paradise with 70 virgins.
These wackos are only scared of NOT reaching Paradise, which means, if we execute them, they need to die in such a way, as, reaching the right hand of Allah will not be possible. No martyrdom, no Paradise, no virgins.
Such tactics were used during the Moro insurrection in the PI. But, we are a kinder, gentler, nation now.
The laws of the United States do not say the police MUST give a suspect Miranda rights. Many people think this is the case but it is not. What the law and the courts say is simply that you cannot use anything a suspect says in a court of law if you don't give them Miranda.
Writing for the majority Chief Justice Earl Warren, wrote (Miranda v. Arizona, 384 U.S. 436 1966),
The person in custody must, prior to interrogation, be clearly informed that he has the right to remain silent, and that anything he says will be used against him in court; he must be clearly informed that he has the right to consult with a lawyer and to have the lawyer with him during interrogation, and that, if he is indigent, a lawyer will be appointed to represent him.[4]
How convenient for prosecutors seeking political hay out of this. You have a defendant who is 19 years old....has a hole in his throat and may never be able to speak...How can this guy even instruct council? This whole thing is going to be a mess.

There is very little in this man's bio that suggests he is a true religious zealot. I doubt he is expecting virgins to meet him on the other side.
He is a US citizen, not an enemy combatant. His religious motive does not make him an enemy - just stupid. He has been charged with a capital crime. He could get the death penalty when convicted. MA has nothing to do with it. These are federal charges. I doubt he gets the chair though, a lifetime in supermax is more likely and probably a worse fate for a 19 yo to be staring down.
SuperMax is where we send the most henius offenders. They are usually kept in solitary confinement because we do't want the inmates to exact prison justice.

How about a computer? If Steven Hawking can explain the mysteries of the universe to us with one, the defendant can certainly communicate with counsel the same way.
Solitary 23 hours a day. No communication with the outside world allowed.
This is your room, for the rest of your life. Personally? I'd rather get lethal injection.
The TV will have basic cable....There will be a mattress on the slab...to have a private shower is a luxury...You can read...mediate - take up some sort of art....have visitors on occasion..live out your life like a monk...no- this is much much better than being executed. Execution must be a terrifying prospect for anyone. Natural death through old age or disease can be acceptable and adjusted too. Being murdered by the state or anyone else is really grotesque. Death by lethal injection can some times take up to 20 minutes.....nawh - life in any form is precious. Being confined to a cell and have privacy is tolerable...Being pushed into the mainstream of the general population in a prison would be hell.
