There were attacks at other embassies that same day in Egypt, Yemen...should we have sent US forces to those locations also. Speaking of psychic how did Hicks know this was terrorist attack in the first few minutes,
Once again where were the forces coming from, they had already sent forces that were attacked, what location, how many, how much time. So we are going to send in jets into a foreign country with a risk of being shot down, what exactly would jets do to prevent their deaths.

I have not read up on all the details, I understand that once they started using RPG's it was probably more than a protest but Libya at the time was out of control. What makes this different than the protests in other countries, the Embassy in Iran was taken over by students why made this different.

The US had pulled back security and were using Libyan contractors at the CIA base claiming victory over AQ.
The embassy was not attacked by protesters was it ?
Who knows what the reasons were for all of those attacks. What reasons did the Bush administration give? You don't know, do you? Why? Because the opposition didn't immediately go into attack mode and start looking for reasons to denigrate the administration. If they had, we would all remember. In the end, what mattered was that we were attacked, and we stood together as one nation, us against the terrorists.
Which of course is a lie. The president called it an act of terror the very next morning in the Rose Garden. I know, I know, he said "an act of terror" and not "terrorist attack." Horrors! He didn't use the "right" words as far as Republicans are concerned! THAT CALLS FOR AN INVESTIGATION!!

I think we should have had commandos, not diplomats, in Libya. The place is a mess. Now that Ghadaffi is gone, the disunity of the forces that toppled him comes to the surface. That's pretty common in the fall of dictatorships. Look what happened when Saddam Hussein went into hiding. Look what happened in Yugoslavia. "Diplomacy" makes no sense in such places. If Carter made an error, it was in not clearing the whole diplomatic staff out of Iran before the Islamists got power. We have to STOP assuming the replacements will be "more reasonable people". All our experience is the opposite.
