If you were taught "I don't want no library" is proper grammar, I'd say we do need more libraries!

(of course, I'm obviously a tad biased on this issue - lol)

Besides, a Presidential library isn't like a public one... it's basically just a glorified museum, celebrating the President and supported by private funding. So what does that have to do with schools and public branches?

He would if not for Iraq. It was Iraq, not the economy, that was the major downfall of his administration.

If you want to blame the economy completely on Bush, answer this. What Bush policy created the housing bubble and/or what could he have done to stop it that he did not do or try to do?

If you want to talk about Iraq, think CONGRESS!

It's a no-brainer.

And by the way, the housing bubble was caused primarily by Frank/Dodd.

Another no-brainer.

You are right in that the housing bubble can be blamed on many people going back several administrations. Greenspan really fueled it in his response to the 2001 recession.

The Iraq debacle though can't be explained away or blame shifted. It was Bush, Powell, and Rice that wanted to remove Saddam Hussein even before 9/11 and they capitalized on their popularity in 2002-03 to get it approved. That was Bush's ultimate fatal mistake.

Seriously?

JUNE 18, 2002: Bush Pushes Minority Home Ownership

"President Bush on Monday promoted his campaign to boost homeownership among minorities, saying he wanted the number of black and Latino homeowners to increase by at least 5.5 million by the end of the decade. "And that's got to change for the good of the country," Bush said. "And I believe those of us who have been given positions of responsibility must do everything we can to spotlight the [American] dream and to make sure the dream shines in all neighborhoods, all throughout our country."

In his current budget, Bush is seeking nearly $2.4 billion in tax credits for developers to help spur the rehabilitation or new construction of up to 200,000 homes for purchase by low-income households."

DECEMBER 16, 2003: Bush Signs American Dream Downpayment Act of 2003

"One of the biggest hurdles to homeownership is getting money for a down payment. This administration has recognized that, and so today I'm honored to be here to sign a law that will help many low-income buyers to overcome that hurdle, and to achieve an important part of the American Dream . . . Last year I set a goal to add 5.5 million new minority homeowners in America by the end of the decade. That is an attainable goal; that is an essential goal. And we're making progress toward that goal. . . . This administration will constantly strive to promote an ownership society in America. We want more people owning their own home. It is in our national interest that more people own their own home. After all, if you own your own home, you have a vital stake in the future of our country. And this is a good time for the American homeowner."

No, you pretended Obama did this.

Meanwhile, those of us in the real world got promotions, bought houses, watched retirement accounts soar and enjoyed the ride.
