With background checks in place would the POTUS be able to get one?

Better question: "Would POTUS pass a full background investigation, such as that required of ANYBODY else who needs a Top Secret Clearance for his work?"
IMO, everybody who wants to run for elective office should have to pass such an investigation before they can get their name on the ballot!
Yes, that includes ALL the members of Congress, and anybody else who has access to classified material!

So how do/did all of these disenfranchised minority voters register to vote in the first place?

Well... first you have to be smarter than the ID.

Good question!
I wish I could give you a good answer!
But, "they" say that requiring an ID card to vote is a ploy by one of the parties to prevent members of the opposition from voting.
Personally, as a citizen of a State that REQUIRES the voter to identify themselves, AND sign the voter book, AND allows election day registration, I do not understand the problem!

It varies from state to state.

You don't have to do any of those to buy a gun through a private sale.

Beyond epic fail.

Minorities have no right to buy new firearms from approved FFL Dealers?

Stop the War on Minorities!

You can do background checks without ID's and why did you single out minorities?

Either one is very ignorant or one is a convenient liar...
No one ever made the argument that minorities did not have I.D.,as a whole. The argument was presented that certain conservatives were purposely eliminating was was the most common forms of i.d. carried by minorities and the elderly and requiring forms of i.d. that statisically minorities and the elderly did not possess.

So I go to register to vote and the good ole boy tells me..."no we don't accept your college i.d. as legitimate i.d. but if you have a concealed gun permit, we can do business".

Or, "sorry, yes you have been voting for the last fifty years and never had a birth certificate or drivers license, but if you just find your birth certicate, then we can do business."

Did you start this thread with any real forethought or did you just want to see something with your name on it???

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a conservative organization linked to corporate and right-wing donors, including the billionaire Koch brothers, has drafted and distributed model legislation, obtained by Campus Progress, that appears to be the inspiration for bills proposed by state legislators this year and promoted by Tea Party activists, bills that would limit access of young people to vote.

Conservative representatives in the state have proposed a law, backed by Walker, that would ban students from using in-state university- or college-issued IDs for proof-of-residency when voting. If this legislation became law, it would become one of the strictest voter registration laws in the country
