What's so special about those particular 2 men? What about all the 1000's of innocent civilian people who have been kidnapped, tortured or killed?
By October 2012, up to 28,000 people had been reported missing, including civilians forcibly abducted by government troops or security forces. According to the UN, about 1.2 million Syrians have been displaced within the country. To escape the violence, as many as 1.4 million Syrian refugees have fled to neighboring countries. In addition, tens of thousands of protesters have been imprisoned and there were reports of widespread torture and psychological terror in state prisons. By Feb 2013, according to various opposition activist groups, between 68,440 and 82,130 people have been killed, of which about half were civilians.
Are you serious? They were very well known across the Orthodox Christian world. They were known for helping people, doing charities, praying, and leading the community.
They are kidnapped, and we want them released safe!
If they were two rabbis, the entire world would have reacted differently

Yes, I'm serious. What's so special about them? That they are Christian? That they are bishops?
Frankly the fact that you don't give a fig for the 1000's of innocent men women and children who have been kidnapped, tortured or killed in the Syrian Civil war, but are all concerned about 2 bishops says a lot about you.

It's generally a bad sign when the leaders of a minority community are specifically targeted for kidnapping or death. Back when this was at full-swing in Iraq in 2005 and 2006, Iraqi Christians took it as a sign to flee, because if "militants" were willing to murder their own bishops and cultural "representatives," then clearly, the future would be fairly grim for them as well. And they were right.

Your point is well taken. One human life is not necessarily more valuable than another human life.
However, the symbolism of abducting the spiritual leaders of a religious minority group that is suffering oppression and persecution is very disturbing. It is meant to not only harm those individuals but it is an act of intimidation and terrorism against that entire community.
Can you understand that in any city of the US a person might be murdered ... maybe they live in a high crime area with drug trafficking going on, but if, say, a Jewish Rabbi is abducted from a synagogue and later murdered - it would be especially horrifying to many people including the members of his congregation. Now all murder victims are a tragedy, but some just get more media attention and spark an even greater degree of outrage.

Thanks for your well reasoned response of putting it in the context of the symbolism of intimidation and terrorism against a minority group. It also explains the rationale behind why 'hate crimes' against members of minority groups are treated more severely.
The point is for the US government to talk about it
