Only an idiot would arrive at that conclusion? Are you an idiot?
Perry had run some ads in California enticing business to move to Texas,...and several a week/month were doing just that. This cartoon was a backhanded slap at Perry but nevertheless slapped those who lost their lives trying to stop the fire.
Several per week/month?
Give me the names of ten businesses that left Cali for Texas since January of this year.
If you find Austin in the central part of Texas and head north[up] on IH 35 N toward Waco/dallas, once you past Waco is the town of West. Right about where that IH35 sign is on the map.
If you look to the left and see cities like Midland/Odessa, Van Horn, El Paso...thats west Texas.
It seems that Perry should be outraged at the explosion and not the cartoon. What is Perry doing to prevent another explosion from occurring in his state?
I would assume his bosses are weighing the option right now.
Funny world we live in: pay the guy to craft social commentary that will hopefully get people's interest to generate revenue. Then when he succedes his job may be gone.
Maybe his boss doesn't define success like that. Maybe producing offensive cartoons hurts business.
Its appropriate and much need commentary on the dangers of industrial self-regulation. Self-regulation might entice businesses to come to Texas but at what expense to the citizens of Texas? Their lives, in some cases, as we've seen in Waco.
You do know that the regulations were in place, but that federal agencies were not following through on enforcing those regulations, and apparently the owner/management was not being truthful about the amount of explosive ingredients at the site, right?
It's not a matter of no regulations - it's a matter of criminal negligence.
As for the cartoon - it's free speech. Tasteless and insensitive, but last time I checked, we weren't granted the right not to be offended - and no law on earth can fix "tasteless and insenstive" people.

This is the entire point of this cartoon. Rick Perry will overlook/allow companies to do just about anything they want so that he can say "we created x number of jobs!" Scott Walker is doing the same in WI.
