They smoke they smoke, that is their business their life. Why don't you just ask the person their name.
I think we as a society worry and think about the wrong issues. Their business he already is small, and evident he does not care about smoking, so let him be.
As adults we know right from wrong, and we each have the choice of making our own decisions. Just like food, sorry if someone wishes to be big, that is their business no one else.

While talking to a person I would use their name. While talking about a person I would use their name. While talking about a group of people I would use them. Seems simple to me.
