Natives have a massive inferiority complex. They constantly have to ask how you like it, what your favorite thing about Atlanta is, etc. The people are so nice that it is hard to tell them the truth and say it sucks.
I've lived in four other cities beside Atlanta and never found this to be the case.
I wish I had a dollar for every dumb, drive-by comment about this city I've seen in this forum.
I've lived around the country, too. The first few months in the area, whenever we mentioned we were new-ish, the immediate reaction was for the person we were conversing with to mention how perfect everything is and many would get a little peeved if we didn't agree that, for example, Atlanta summers are the best or Lenox Mall is the greatest mall ever. Or they would downplay all the negatives. There is much to like about Atlanta, but people have to accept the negative aspects in order to fix them and make the place a better place to live.
There are a lot of people who hate on Atlanta just because it is easy to, I agree. Living there, visiting there, and parroting talking points will give you three distinct opinions of the city.

I have noticed a trend lately among the news media. They seem to be totally into Atlanta Georgia. Just yesterday I watched some news. On CNN there was the Mayor of Atlanta, a younger looking black man, who was talking about transportation issues. I really do not know why the Mayor of Atlanta is an "expert" on the subject of transportation but there he was.
Then, later, on the NBC nightly news, there was a long story about the city trying to get 2 historical churches to move so they can build a new football stadium next to the old football stadium that is only 20 years old (I guess they got lots of money down there). Is that something the rest of the country really cares about?
Then, this morning, I turned on the Weather Channel and, as usual, they had to tell us what the weather was "outside here in Atlanta". Yes, I am aware they have nice winters down there but why do they think any of the other 300 million of us that don't live there care what the temperature is down there?
I fail to understand why Atlanta is always on the news everywhere but a much larger city like Chicago is never on the news unless it is about shootings or bad schools. You know we are 3 times as big as Atlanta and we have alot of good things going on here too. And we have 2 baseball teams, one of which says they might leave. Where is the news media??
On that note too, Texas isn't the center of the universe either. Lot of media coverage lately, particularly those on the right, are all about Texas this and Texas that, let's all move down to Texas, Heaven on Earth! Sometimes I get the feeling it's to "rescue" the state from its growing Mexican population and the Democratic Party's influence in the state

It is the second most populous US state. I guess its a little difficult for Texas to avoid media attention.
Black folks drive me crazy acting as if Atlanta's streets are paved with milk and honey. They don't do it as much as they used to, but you still hear it enough to make me .
I can't say that i've heard white folks sound quite as giddy about the place.
But, white folk get giddy about Portland and/or Austin. Why does it bother you so much about what other black people may think? People are entitled to their opinions. So, what's it to you?
UMMMM, maybe Atlanta is getting attention because CNN is headquartered here maybe...possibly, and the Weather Channel is here too. That may be the reason smh....if people just used their heads, they could answer their own questions. Plus to the poster who said the who said the Varsity has the best burgers, is HUGELY misinformed!!!
