Too much gratutous violence in Hockey for me, although hearing a hockey puck slam into the wall from a missed slap shot in an empty arena except for a few players practicing on the ice is a real wake-up.
Also I have noticed this with friends...in Canada, at least Qc, if you're smoking pot, the cops will usually just take what you're smoking away from you (if you're doing all this within reason) and tell you to not be in public or tell you that you should stop. In the U.S, they'll arrest you and you'll go to jail and get a record for smoking.
(THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED TO ME BUT FRIENDS)
Not true at all. Many states have fully or partially legalized pot and in many cities, like Austin, the cops will ignore pot smokers unless there are other issues.
I'm getting a kick out of watching that Mike Duffy, Pamela Whallin Senate Expense reimbursement debacle on TV.
Here you have two appointed conservative senators who've been padding their expense claims "illegally", being audited by a senate committee comprised of two conservative senators, who have already revised a damning audit to "fudge" the facts, AGAIN having the reports sent back for a re-audit by the SAME committee that fudged the first report!
The Prime Minister's chief advisor wrote a personal check for the $90K that Mike Duffy was found to be in default of to cover his azz and this was done supposedly without Harper being aware!
All of this from the party of the guy who ran on a ticket of making government more transparent?
He's losing it big time but the same condition exists up here with NO VIABLE PARTY of opposition to take over control of ALL aspects of governing.
You have a heavily business oriented party in power who have performed admirably under these troubling economic times, (albeit with arrogance) and you have two primary opposition parties who are promising to provide everything from a chicken in every pot to a swimming pool in every yard if elected.
Aaah well.

Have you ever watched Michael Moore? He clearly states that Americans come to Canada for health care...only the VERY RICH Canadians would get healthcare in the States.

The only marked difference I've been able to target is the absence of the HUGE lobbying interests having direct access to our politicians. Do they still make back room deals in secret? PROBABLY!
Our government does not have to azz kiss our military hegemony to any degree at all up here. Without that linkage you will never see the likes of a Cheney with ties to outfits like Blackwater being in a position to perpetuate a military incursion or even sway the electorate to start one.
You will also NEVER see Harper or any other Prime Minister having the types of relationship with 'oil sheiks' that the Bush's have had for generations with all of the underlying corruption of thought process that almost certainly brings to the lead chair.
We can and have elected someone up here who has no personal wealth to speak of because our political system does not require the millions in campaign fund contributions to function.
Give us time though, as in MOST things, Canada will ultimately emulate what goes on south of us as: "resistance is futile".
Those incidents don't really affect me and most Americans though.
They affect every American because they have significantly reduced our trust in government. As that trust goes down, we will begin to progress toward being a 3rd world country.
If you can't trust the IRS to be non political, why does that not bother you?

Actually Micheal Moore is right. I have some quite wealthy friends in Calgary who spend their winters in AZ. where they get all their elective under the knife stuff done every winter.
Now , Hitler actually had a health plan for everyone. In some ways he was socialistic....to a fault.
I wish I could make the move north to the most perfect country in the world...
Here, every time I go somewhere I see people fighting, shooting each other, people getting mugged, etc...
