A little history: back in 2009, in Obama's first year, there was a concerted push by the admin to advance the meme that a lack of gun control in the US was responsible for violence among drug gangs in Mexico. On Feb 25, 2009, Eric Holder called for a reinstatement of the "assault weapon" ban, saying "I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico at a minimum." On March 26, Hillary Clinton said in Mexico, "The guns that are used by the drug cartels against the police and the military, 90 percent of them come from America." Forget the poor grammar--the 90% figure was later decisively debunked. Nonetheless, Pres. Obama reiterated it a few days later: "More than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States...."
Some gun rights groups have argued that Operation Fast and Furious was intentionally devised as a way to promote gun control, citing emails between senior ATF officials that discussed whether the Fast and Furious guns in one region ‘were all purchased from the same [dealer] and at one time.’
‘We are looking at anecdotal cases to support a demand letter on long gun multiple sales,’ one email read.In another, one ATF leader wrote to another that Fast and Furious ‘could be a strong supporting factor if we can determine how many multiple sales of long guns occurred during the course of this case.’
ATF’s intention, ultimately scrapped under political pressure, was to increase reporting requirements on licensed gun dealers when they sell more than one weapon in a single transaction.
The scheme blew apart when a Border Patrol agent was killed with one of the guns, and BATF never has explained why it was thought to be a good idea to ship several thousand guns to Mexican drug gangs.
But after that cluster****, here is Pres. Obama, still shamelessly pushing the meme that Mexican drug gang violence is a result of a lack of gun control in the US. He even insists that he is adamantly opposed to drug legalization, which is the real root of the drug gang violence. We don't see beer truck drivers, whether Mexican or US, getting into shootouts. At least not since the end of prohibition in 1933.
That's why I say that Obama has the press wrapped around his little finger, and knows it, and is taking full advantage of it. When the press is this derelict, it really is a sign that we as a nation are in real trouble.
Politico is now mainstream media? Good for them, they are really moving on up.
Nice try at deflection, but lame. Politico may or may not be MSM, but NBC, ABC, NYT, and WaPO certainly are. I'll exempt CBS from this since at least Sheryl Atiknson did make an honest effort at covering F&F.

No deflection at all, you made a comment about mainstream media and posted a link to Politico as if they are a mainstream media source, which I say good for them, they have worked hard to reach mainstream media level.
Would they bring up Fast and Furious if he had them wrapped around his finger?
And by the way, Politico is certainly not mainstream.
