Why are Republicans so obsessed with abortion, even more so lately?
Because of the following:

"PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- For weeks, jurors in Philadelphia heard grim testimony about deaths and squalor at Dr. Kermit Gosnell's inner-city abortion clinic. While they listened, the murder case reverberated far beyond the courtroom, changing — at least for the moment — the tone of the national debate on abortion....Gosnell, 72, is charged with killing five people — a patient and four viable babies that prosecutors say were born alive. Among scores of other counts, he also is accused of performing abortions after Pennsylvania's 24-week limit...... cut the spinal cords of hundreds of infants born alive."

After all of that how on earth can progressives be so "meh" about this horrendous story along with the their friends in the old media?

I mean cutting spinal cords of live infants? In 2013 America?

This is wrong. It's not a question of "choice", it's a question of "when does human life begin". No one would say it's "pro choice" to kill a 10-year-old child or a 1-year-old baby. Few would say it's "pro choice" to kill a newborn just after it has taken its first breath. Pretty much anyone who believes it's OK to kill a human in those situations COULD be considered "pro death".

Every law enforcement jurisdiction in the country would consider it murder to kill a new-born after it has taken its first breath. But what about 30 seconds before that breath, while still in the mother's body? The baby is 100% viable outside the body, but it's not breathing yet. Would it be murder to cut the umbilical cord and let the fetus die? What about 30 days before full-term? My second son was born 29 days before technically being "full term", but other than an extra dose of oxygen and a few extra tests there were no complications. He came out kicking and ready to go. Would it be murder to have killed him in the womb before birth, or would it be "pro choice"?

Different groups have different definitions of when a pair of independent cells changes into a protected human being. The times vary from the instant the cells merge (fertilization) until the first breath of air. Whatever your personal belief on the issue is, however, one thing remains constant: You believe that aborting the pregnancy before that point is "choice" and aborting the pregnancy after that point is "murder".

Many hard-core anti-abortion types believe human life begins at conception. I wholeheartedly disagree with this, but that is THEIR belief. And yes, it is hypocritical to vote to eliminate sex education, outlaw contraceptives, and outlaw abortions, and then defund programs to help poor families provide for the resulting children.

But the terms "pro life" and "pro death" are actually quite appropriate.

Then there was this rather eye-opening speech by a Planned Parenthood spokeswoman:

"......What is Planned Parenthood's response? The life or death of a survivor should be determined by the birth mother, her doctor and her family. 'We believe that any decision that's made should be up to the family…the woman, her family and the physician,' said Snow....."

It is a simple issue for many people that can be debated with minimal brain activity. Issues like the economy take too much thinking, so we don't worry as much about it.

You're kidding, right?

Media reports on what politicians are doing......Republican politicians are obsessed with abortion and spend most of their time writing and introducing legislation aimed at regulating it out of existence.

The only reason we are constantly hearing about abortion is because Republican's just can't let it go and move on.

Another reason Republicans focus on anti-abortion legislation.

Let me go on record by saying that I am pro-life. However, I understand that Roe vs Wade has been on the books for nearly 40 years and probably isn't going to be overturned. Yet Republicans keep harping on about how much Democrats supposedly support abortion. Any time something is brought up they don't like, their answer is "Yeah, but Democrats kill babies."

Why the obsession with abortion? Don't they have other things to be concerned about?

"Lately" there has been a doctor on trial for killing babies born alive and calling it abortion.

Most media sources ignored it because it made abortion look bad. Republicans have been yelling about this. that is why "lately" it seems they have been more vocal.

Liberals are doing what they do. Something seriously wrong with their idology has been exposed so they have circled the wagons and cried out that nothing has happened...nothing to see here....

Republicans are just trying to point out the henous nature of what is going on.

Gosnell is a criminal who BROKE THE LAW........

Just like the guys who took guns into movie theaters and schools and blasted away.

If you want to use Gosnell to define all abortion providers......why shouldn't we also use these mass murderers to define all gun owners?
