That was a great documentary. And a very honest depiction of those types of "arrangements".
I loved the part where the filmmaker asked the old White man what the Asian woman got out of the "arrangement" and he had absolutely no answer. And I especially loved the part where the Asian woman (two days after the wedding) said that she would need to work hard and save money to get eventually get away from the old White man and that she couldn't go back to China due to the embarrassment and public humiliation that she would face.
You loved those parts? Do you go to children's cancer hospital to point and laugh too?
I don't like any analysis of relationships that reduces attraction based on looks to a fetish.
Otherwise one could say all inter-racial marriage couplings are "fetish" or some acting out of underlying social hierarchy at play. That's unfair to couples who really just are in love!
The age thing is a completely different angle though.... if you have to buy a woman from the third world because you're 60 and haven't managed to find someone in your own country.... at LEAST get yourself someone +/- 10 years.

I loved those parts because the filmmaker (who is an Asian woman married to a White man) was seeking honesty from these individuals and not a sanitized, 'this is normal', 'we just happened to fall in love' type of film.
Why would white men "aspire" to marry Asian women? Is that somehow considered marrying up? SMH...it just seems asinine. If they happen to like an Asian woman, I understand that. But ASPIRE? That's just waaaaay too weird to me.
Secondly, why are people fascinated by interracial marriages or relationships anyway? It's nothing more than a union of two people that don't share the same race. Big deal. It doesn't say anything important about the person. If anything, it just says that they don't have a racial preference for dating or marrying. Big ass shoulder shrug!! Guess what, 99% of men will sleep with any race of woman provided that she's bearably attractive and she's as willing as you are. Hell, she might not have to even be somewhat attractive for half the guys I know.
Women have higher standards, but not by much. If there's enough money involved (a rich guy) and he's attractive just enough to not be flat out revolting, they'll compromise in a New York minute.
I don't know...I just think this strange fascination over these relationships is something folks should've gotten over 30 years ago.
