It's their tax dollars if they vote to tear it down and build a new school there then so be it. 57 million bucks. How old was the school anyway the article didn't mention it. Was it new or falling apart to begin with??
Sandy Hook was built in 1968 - so 45 years old. I would prefer to see it renovated, but that also puts the onus on the parents and staff to relocate if their children/themselves cannot bear going back into the building. Several of the children who were murdered have siblings - those siblings should not have to go back into the building where their brother or sister was killed.
The district I grew up in has retired most of it's pre-1980s buildings in lieu of newer buildings that has the capacity to hold the growing number of students in the district. Maybe that makes sense for Sandy Hook.
Because if they tear it down it never happend?
Now if an entity takes up a collection and people donate enough to build another school without tax monies, then so be it.
