Are we short on college graduates these days? Seems we have a lot who can't find a job.
The student debt is the next card that will fall and bring more of the economy down with it. If we can bailout these wall street scum who caused the problems in the first place, we can do the same for the average person.
"Growing the economy" helps provide more jobs for those that are currently unemployed, including the many new college graduates that have been forced to move back with their parents. Helping students pay for college means more people with degrees that can't find a job.
It also means tuition will go up.
And if it would somhow work more people than ever would have degrees, rendering current graduates worthless. A college degree would be the same as a hs diploma.
She should change the terms for the banks if it bothers her so much, not for college sudents.
If you want tuition to go down, get rid of Government student loans.
When colleges start seeing that no one can afford them on their own dime, they will quickly lower tuition costs to attract students.
Having 20 year olds starting off with $50-$100K+ in debt is not good for society as a whole.
I think we should exert far more financial control over the banks and the speculators than we do over college students and graduates. I agree with Senator Warren. Student loans should be at the same interest rates as loans to money center banks. They should also be directly from the Federal government and paid back by a surcharge on the graduate’s income tax. There is no reason, other than corporate greed for a secure loan, to have the private sector banks involved at all.
This should not only apply to new student loans but existing loans should be taken over by the federal government with interest rates revised and repayment part of the graduate’s income tax.
Good for Warren and great for the people of Massachusettes that had the smarts to put her in office...
I'm sure the colleges and universities around the nation are just salivating at this one. They won't have to stop exponential tuition increases after all.
"Durrrr...yeah, maybe she should be in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant too! Woman should know her place!"
There are no kitchens in teepees.
