Minnesota has had a long history of "progressive" activism. Yes, I put "progressive" in quotation marks because it is a nice way of saying "left-wing".
The passage of marriage equality in Minnesota, is a direct response to the 2012 GOP backed referendum to make gay marriage unconstitutional. This never would've happened if the Christian right wingers wouldn't have went all in with a losing hand. The voters called, and the MN legislature went from red to blue. This is poetic justice in it's purest form.
I would love to see poor Michelle Bachmann, face bless her heart.
Minnesota was viewed by political analysts and many gay activists as the long shot for a win by gays. But, in addition to beating back that measure, just six months later the Land of 10,000 Lakes has shown us what equality is all about.
This is just in time before SCOTUS give their ruling on DOMA next week.
