How convenient for them that they can change their opinions with the same speed as those winds.

James Inhofe-Moore federal aide: Oklahoma senator says tornado aide package "totally different" than Sandy bill he opposed.

This is "totally different", says Inhofe. They misused the money; we're going to make sure it's spend wisely. Conveniently, he didn't specify HOW that would be achieved.... Where's the accountability going to magically come from?

Coburn says they will offset the disaster relief with cuts elsewhere... Hmmm. We'll see.

The point is that even though Coburn and Inhofe are right to push for disaster funds to be spend wisely and offset elsewhere as possible, they should still have been decent and supported that same immediate funding benefit to those left in need after disaster strikes, just like they are now in Moore. When it's your own people suddenly left out in the cold, you come to understand that rather quickly. Moore, OK residents should absolutely get all the help we can give now, but so should all Americans in the wake of a significant disaster - regardless of what state they're in.

Oh, and by the way: Oklahoma is third in the nation when it comes to disaster declaration and federal aid.

Quote:
This is not the first time Oklahoma has found itself in need of help in the face of such a tragedy. The state currently ranks third in the nation—behind Texas and California—when it comes to its dependency on federal emergency relief to deal with devastation as a result of natural disasters.

To be Republican is to be a hypocrite. It's as natural to them as breathing.

If the cuts come from elsewhere, they should primarily come from federal spending in Oklahoma. That's only fair. Why should everyone else pay because they choose to live in Tornado Alley? There are three USAF bases, an Army base, a heavy FAA presence, agricultural subsidies, highway spending, VA hospitals, Social Security offices, etc... I see lots of places where Coburn could get the money right in his own backyard.

It should be interesting to see how much pork is attatched to any relief package offered to OK. Then we'll have a fun discussion.

He happens to be 100% correct.

Inhofe and Coburn (along with some other state politcians) are compete idiots with a hefty dose of *****hole thrown in for good measure.

I've lived here off and on my whole life. It's a fact.

They are an embarrassment to Oklahoma and to national politics.

Unfortunately, they aren't the only ones.

Fortunately, Oklahoma is far more diverse than people think. I'd like to mention that OKC went 36% blue in the 2004 presdential elections and 42% blue in 2008. Tulsa (the other metro area in the state) had nearly identical numbers.

This isn't an endorsement of either political party (they both equally disgust me); just pointing out this isn't all yee-haw country-pop, 3.2 beer, college football, neocon and Bible buckle stuff out here.

Ahhh the old republican self serving rallying cry to muster the troops! I knew it was only a matter of time before this statement reared its ugly head. And they have the audacity to wonder why they lose elections. Sad but predictable.
