Unless CT is different than the rest of the country, federal dollars don't build schools. Most schools are built with bond money. School districts issue bonds, approved by voters. Then taxes repay the bonds.

To be fair, anyone know how old the school was? Maybe they were due for a new one but using this as an excuse to move the plans up a few years..

It probably will cost so much because they will rebuild it all green to be hip and cool and impress all the neighbors.

There are lots of grant programs by the federal government used to fund schools
School Modernization

Schools sell bonds to finance part of it, but rarely all of the construction costs

"However, to be fair to the authorities, ebola, and really anything which causes bleeding from every orifice, makes the neighbors nervous. The people in charge sort of had to kill the monkeys. What they didn't know at the time is that Reston ebola virus is lethal to monkeys but not humans. Even so, sometimes you have to break a few eggs to quell a hysterical panic brought on by the threat of viral annihilation.

In addition, the building itself became difficult to rent. Nobody really felt like putting an ice cream shop at a location which held infectious monkeys. Go figure. So, the original building which housed Hazleton Laboratories was destroyed in 1995."

Up-thread says it was built in 1968, which is brand new at the rate we build/update schools in this country.

Honest to god, anybody complaining about their precious tax dollars being spent on building schools, remember the trillion-plus we dumped into Iraq? Remember that?

I'd try to use the building for something else. Recreation center maybe.

With regards to funding, the town generally issues bonds.

Well if sadaam was trading oil in euros and and the rest joined in and the US lost world reserve currency status we wouldn't be able to print up 57 million to build this school. Chew on that for a while.
